In another thread we all post what we are listening to, and we sure do have diverse and interesting tastes.
But a different question: What would you recommend as music to smoke a pipe to?
Perhaps there could be enough of a consensus for the site to consider a CD "Briar Patch Music for Smoking"
Perhaps not. Just me, thinking too much.

So my first recommendation would be something that doesn't grab your attention, but is pleasant every time you do listen. Not bland elevator music, but something nice but that you can concentrate on the smoke and your own thoughts.
If your tastes run to classical i would, of course, recommend the Scarlatti Keyboard Sonatas. They are engaging and even interesting in a "sit forward" mode of listening, but not so distracting and overwhelming in a "sit back" mode. To me thats the ticket, being able to sit back and smoke and not be distracted, and OTOH occasionally lean forward and not be insulted, when the conversation stops or your thoughts pause.(As opposed to a Mozart Symphony, which I cannot sit back and listen to.)
For older rock aficionados I would recommend any Doobie Brothers Album. It is wonderful sitting forward, and great sitting back. (As opposed to The Doors, which I cannot sit back and listen to.)
Within the rock genre, I might suggest Frank Zappa Shut Up and Play Your Guitar, as opposed any other of his albums. Sit back and sit up.
Your thoughts?

Smooth jazz is a great idea. Not my type of nutmeg but a lot of folks love it for just these reasons.

When the radio is actually on it's on the heavy rock/metal channel.
Most of the time I listen to the country sounds. Not the music, but the birds, crickets, rain frogs, owls, etc.
If I was able to just SIT and enjoy a pipe indoors, it would probably be jazz or blues.

I like a broad spectrum of stuff, but if I am smoking a pipe and listening to music exclusively as a pass time, it would probably be classical or jazz. That is if I'm sober.
Another thing I enjoyed for awhile and forgot about... Someone somewhere in the wide world of pipe forums pointed me to a site that plays the old music they'd pipe into 50s-60s era department stores. It was kind of addicting.

Found it. haha Seeburg100.com If you're interested. I listened. I felt like a kid again. Like a kid separated from his parents, lost and wondering around in E.J. Korvettes. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I relax to rock, mostly metal but enjoy almost all genres when the mood arises.

With so many referencing The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings in both pipes and tobacco, might as well throw in the soundtracks too. lol
Actually, it's probably not a bad idea.

Oldies 50s,60s, 70s played on my ipad played through Bose soundlink. Being an ex radio guy the oldies library is gigantic. The wall of 45s and album has now been digitized and playlists created for my various moods. Right now listening to my favorite 1275 oldies. Favorite pipe of the day and favorite tobacco. Next best thing to being at the beach.

Jazz always hits the spot. It has the complexity of a good blends to match too. One some I've found pairs well with a smoke is Michael Chapman- The Aviator. Not jazz, but a very good smoking song.

I typically listen to a Pandora station, iPad to Bose soundlink. Lately it has been the Counting Crows station. Adam Duritz is kind of amazing.

Pink Floyd is a good choice. Ah, the Floyd...can listen to them any time day or night. The rest of the time when I am smoking my pipes, I listen to the music in my head.

seeburg1000.com/I find this oddly relaxing while going about tasks. Hahaha Also, I may be way off on the actual era, but I'm only in my late 30s, so I'm just assuming it's late 50s- early 60s?
