So as many of you know, Cramptholomew has recently began the journey of making pipes. As he is just starting out and is an artist in many mediums, he has not wanted to show off his work. We artists are very particular and never want to show our work unless we are satisfied enough to display it and even then, many of us feel it’s never good enough. With my work, this is how I feel and with Cramptholomew 's work, I know he feels the same. Never the less, he gave me permission to photograph this pipe and post it here. This past Saturday we were able to meet up for a bit of pipe smoking and good ol’ conversation. While I surprised him with some tobacco, he surprised me with a pipe. I’ve seen a few he has made and this one had my eye so it was a huge surprise to open up the box he gave me and inside there it sat. I barely had any words. I was even so surprised I had to ask if it was really for me. A pipe I had eyed up was now mine and not only that, it was made by someone I consider a close friend and I only have two close friends. That is why this pipe was a big deal to me. He also brought over some tobacco that was freshly cracked open on the spot for the first time. My new pipe would get its first smoke with Esoterica: And So To Bed and there were no complaints there. Both the tobacco and the pipe were amazing. The pipe measures about 4.75” long and about 2.5” tall. Fully packed, one can get a good long smoke out of it. The time spent on the smoke is good too as it smokes quite well. He told me the hole into the bowl was a bit high and it is, only by a hair but for me it works out well. Smoking a blend that tends be a bit wet, the placement of the hole helps with gurgle. Over all, while I’m not an expert, this pipe is great and I plan to use it for many years. I have a few pipes that I just don’t care for as they smoke poorly and others that do well so I have an idea of what smokes bad and what smokes good, at least for me. Once Cramptholomew decides if/when he is ready to open up sales on his pipes, I can truly recommend them. They look beautiful and smoke beautiful as well.

That pipe is stunning, and to be made bha guy who's only started out is phenomenal. Cramptholomew, you are a true artist. One day I'll be telling my grandchildren that I know the famous pipemaker, Cramptholomew. Treasure that beauty, McWiggins, and I hope you have many many years of smoking pleasure from it.

Although ebauchon briar can come from Turkey or Greece. Whatever Country that piece of briar originated from it has plenty of birdseye on the bowl and a beautiful grain on the top of the shank with birdseye on the bottom. Steve set you up well👌👍👍

McWiggins gave me a bunch of tobacco samples, including a pressed and stoved cylinder of Presbyterian that he made. I haven't tried it yes, since I'm saving it. It seems like a Christmas Eve thing to do. There are a bunch of blends I've been interested in that he happened to have in the bag. A good night for both of us.

That is a beautiful pipe that looks as if it might keep your nose warm for awhile! I tend to pack my bowls a bit light and airy. This pipes gives a good hour and a half but I know I could beat that. lol

It's only my 6th pipe to date, and there are flaws that I see (anyone NOT me sees nothing wrong with it, but I'm my own worst critic, and I'm sure the "experts" would agree about my self criticism), but why not let someone gets some joy out of it? McWiggins remained my friend through a lot of bad stuff, even when I certainly didn't deserve it, and we retain that friendship today. Plus, we started smoking pipes a few months apart. I hope to get better as I hone the old skills. I'm terrified of a doing a diamond shank...

I guess it could be square, but I usually think of square being flat on top, and diamond being pointy on top. I would never put a diamond on a pipe. That would be too dainty.

I love the grain and birdseye, what a beaut. That is the best way to receive a pipe and it will remain one of your most prized pipes for the years to come. I wish you years of enjoyment.
