Nice! This is the first year that I didnt get to carve a pumpkin with any of my kids. Had me feeling down. They all had other plans.
Maybe I'll go buy one for myself tomorrow.

The best carving I had was when I lived in the Bay Area and the Hippopotamus's did the carving.
Every year, Half Moon Bay farmers had a surplus of pumpkins post Halloween, so they donated them to the SF zoo...I hauled the loads for a few years and the zookeepers allowed me to throw the first pitch or two..or 15. It is something else to toss a 30 lb Pumpkin in a hippo's mouth and watch in two chomps it disappears from sight. I remember one guy saying..."The manure will be dynamic!" pretty sure he was a stoner.

The last time I carved a pumpkin, I took quite a bit of time and care. Happy with my work, I lit the candle and placed it on the front porch. Later that evening, a squadron of Javalinas came by and ate everything but the candle.

Those look like a group of adolescents and have lots of room to grow. One time, I watched two full grown males chasing a black Lab down the road. The dog had no problem staying out front but sure as heck wasn't stopping! LOL

Great job on the jack-o-lanterns, Scott. We always carve our pumpkins on Halloween before the trick-or-treating starts. They have to be lit and out on the front porch before the first kids come by.

Nice work there, Scott W! We'll be carving our pumpkins on Wednesday, I think. Always good fun. I've seen some carvings that are mind-blowing. Mine are never that good.

Thanks for sharing 👍 [br I'd give anything to spend Another day with my grandfather. I'm glad I spent the summer before he passed mowing his lawn, watching judge Judy, and talking once a week.

One thing I learned early on, was to cut the top off at a diagonal angle (about 45°) towards the middle.
That way the lid can go back on after you've finished carving and scooping. If you cut straight down the top won't go back on.
