So, now I'm at my computer, here are a few photos of the shop... Inside there is a wall of pipes and a cabinet of pipes... Behind the cabinet there is another one which was empty. They used to have their bulk blends there, but can no longer display them due to the EU regulations. The guy who worked there was a lovely man. He was telling me that all tobacco products MUST look the same... The sticker on the tin wont suffice anymore. However, since Peterson are not changing their packaging, they are no longer selling their own blends in their own shop. You have to go online for them. In essence, they're all about the pipes now. And to make things worse, a 100g tin costs around €50. That's shocking. I thought the UK prices were bad (although our budget is today so we'll see what happened later today). Such a shame. I'll show 2 of the pipes in the PAD thread (Christmas 2018 and Jekyll and Hyde). I'll, instead, leave you with Sherlock Holmes smoking a Peterson...

Wow, this is AWESOME! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, if I ever make it to Ireland, this would be high up on my list of places to go.

That is exactly right, my friend. I would want you for my tour guide for the whole trip if you had time.

A nice shop to visit indeed. Too bad about the tobacco regs and prices. A pox on all governments...

I asked the guy about that. He said the pipes will still be made in Ireland, so he didn't think there would be much difference in that field. Tobacco-wise he wasn't sure what the future holds for that, but it didn't look good. I'm not sure why they don't want to change their packaging and sell more in Europe. I think the American Market is where they're going to concentrate their efforts.

Wow, thanks for sharing. The packaging laws are so idiotic, though perhaps they should go down the SG route - not change the packaging per se, but put tins in sleeves with the diseased organs.

Thank you for sharing those pics. Can you tour the actual pipe making area? Is that another building somewhere else? I am seriously planning on a trip to Ireland in a couple of years and pubs and pipes are my main agenda haha. Although the wife may not agree with me.

To be honest, I never asked.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing! However, it's a crying shame when you can't sell your own tobacco in your own shop.

Thanks for sharing your Peterson visit with us, LL! Much appreciated. Wow, thanks for sharing. The packaging laws are so idiotic, though perhaps they should go down the SG route - not change the packaging per se, but put tins in sleeves with the diseased organs. I hadn't heard that SG was doing this, but if it appeases the regulators, it's definitely the way to go.

The pipes are made in a factory just outside of town as I understood it. Sherlock is holding a 4AB, JimInks Holy Grail Pipe.

Great intel, Paddy. You are now our official Agent, Double Naught 1, in the British Isles. For your initiation you need to find the nearest bust of Churchill and rub his head. Then proceed to report to "Z" singing (to the tune of Bright Golden Glaze on the Egg Roll):
There's an aura of glamour about me, there's an aura of glamour about me.
The common folk sigh when they see me walk by, because they all know I'm a world famous spy.
{Chorus} Oh what a jolly good feeling. Oh what a jolly good day. I've got a jolly good feeling. I shall kill someone today.
2nd v) Now it may be a German or Frenchman, or maybe a Mafia Henchman. Or maybe some sinister communist foe, Or even a lunatic like Doctor No
{Chorus}

We've been there before, but we just walked past it. We didn't plan it, but we spent most of the day in the Quays bar right in temple bar square. We got there in time to get a seat and we didn't want to give it up as the bar filled.

In Brian Levine’s podcast from July 28, 2015, podcast episode 150, he interviews Tom Palmer former owner of Peterson’s... pretty sure he tells where the factory is at.
I would be interested in where the Jim Lilley collection ended up, he spent his life collecting Peterson’s, and he had some pretty incredible pieces, and his collection was vast. He was stricken with Alzheimer’s, and died a few years back, before he died, he gifted his collection to Peterson’s. The Peterson pipe forum was a great resource, but it was a pretty quiet forum, after Jim passed, the forum languished.
At the WCPS, I am going to try and talk to Shane Ireland, and offer some advice on P-lip enlargements, ask him to consider a Jim Lilley Pipe... he really was the authority on the subject, you can see a smal part of his collection on Pipedia or Pipephil.

There used to be factory tours; not advertised on the official site any more, but this link still seems valid: www.ifcurious.com/ie/r/kapp-and-peterson-tobacco-pipe-manufacturers-factory-tour/Paddy should investigate!
