I think it might increase participation of the chat feature if there was a way to tell if anyone was there before signing in.
For example on the forum page, next to the chat link, if a little bubble number were to come up showing how many were presently in chat. Similar to the numbers that show up when you have a message or how many likes you have accumulated.
Just a thought.
Right now the chatroom is active in the late evenings, which is nice, and fairly predictable, but the rest of the time it is empty and the crickets are singing.

Thanks. I will check it out. I do not have a microphone, however, being deeply Southern, I type faster than I talk. Yes. It would be fun to have a Skype type chatroom where we could talk and smoke and see each other talking and smoking. But that has its disadvantages as well. I can't wear my ratty old smoking bathrobe over my batman tee shirt and i would have to comb my hair. |

I always forget about it since I use my phone 99% of the time. One of these days I'll turn the pc back on.
But I agree, it would be nice to see if others are there, if the software allows it.

I had problem with using the chat link from the Patch. Easy solve....separate listings in "favorites".
have given mods permission to stick my only pic in the "avatar" box but nobody did, so not gonna bother. The pic is in FB

Upon reflection, there are instances when the forum is used kinda like a chat room (people (myself included) saying, 'hi' and 'good morning' etc.).
Having the chatroom on in the background would perhaps facilitate that better. In other words, it would allow people to make their greetings and have ongoing random chitchat, a bit like a 'live' Daily Chronicle.
I wonder is there a better mobile version of it though. As far as I'm aware, the mobile version switches to desktop when I go into the chat option.

We had a good turn out last night Pete 1911 was in there for the first time. It can be a fun place with some off the wall banter. Several of the guys don't really post on the forum often drop in. Jim Inks often pays a visit and he can be a hoot on chat. Other regulars are old Ed, Grumpy, Dino, Les, Sparky the guy who makes all this possible, meself, and John the mod, kxb and lots of other folks. Lots if folks drop by who are afraid to type. I encourage everyone to drop by or start your own mini group at a preset time.

My thoughts on open mike chat rooms. As a gamer I have many formats for team play Ventrillo, Team Speak, Steam and lots more. The problem is not every has their mic setup right and you end up with lots of feedback noise and then the guy who does not use headphones drops by and blasts static. The larger the group the more background stuff you pick up dogs, kids, tv, music and it turns into a mess. It only works if everyone is in a room with the door closed and no fans, music, sound turned up on game then everyone sets up their mics until no one gets feedback. It really only works with four people or less.
