Like Erinmore, I remember my dad smoking St Bruno when I was a kid. Back then,I much preferred the aroma of Erinmore, which,at least back then, was from Belfast.
I'd decided to try it on the basis that I could get it from the local supermarket, rather than have to pay postage and wait for an online supplier.
My first impressions weren't great. Burnt hot in my Falcon, and lots of tongue bite. Compared to Brown and Black, the taste was...unimpressive.
Fast forward on a few weeks. As supplies were running a bit low,I loaded up in a briar one day at lunchtime. Talk about a different view...
It's got a nice long burn time, and in a cob or a briar,it seems to burn cooler. On a cold winter day it's great! Warming in the mouth, reminding me of...well,I don't know! Each sip of the pipe makes me think of a mug of warm soup,or unsweetened builders tea or coffee.
Subtle it isn't. Delicate it isn't. Warm and comforting? Oh hell yes! When the mercury plunges, you might want to try a bowl of this!

I can totally agree with you on that warm, malty aspect like Builders tea.

Nice review. That was my first tobacco and I didn't enjoy it. I only smoked it once or twice right at the start. I must try it again. Cheers for that, kirk13.

Erinmore is one I have yet to try. I have Ennerdale but I must add Erinmore to the list.

I know for July the flake version is the BOM selection but I've had a pouch of the ready rub version waiting for me to try. Come July I'll be trying the flake and I've read they're the same. If so, I'll be happy. I'd say its hard to believe this is a pouch tobacco but then again, it sells for more than most others. I agree with what was said here. Its warming and has a good mouth feel. There's a malt thing going on and to me some hay like qualities too. Its smooth and its sweet and really hits all its notes well. Even the fruity floral flavoring is light and just enough to make it known but not kill the tobacco as well. I can certainly see this being a blend that splits pipe smokers. If its not for you then its not for you. If it is for you, you are going to want to stock up and for me, I will be stocking up. Once there's a good sale. After all, its around $10 a pouch.

I prefer the flake version, but St Bruno is one of those tobaccos that don't impress fresh, but with just a few months of age really come out. I've thrown a few tins in the cellar and will probably open one soon.

I should also probably get in the flake version and jar it up in preparation for July BOM.

I started on St Bruno ready rubbed. I was inexperienced and didn't like it. I ended up binning it.
I've never tried the flake. Looking forward to seeing how it is after a few years experience.

I honestly feel because of its light floral note that its a blend that devides pipe smokers. Maybe today you will find it better or your tastes are more tuned and developed to where you'll dislike it even more.

It is surprisingly Virginia-forward for an aromatic.
