I've had two D&R blends, so far - Three Sails, and Picayune (thanks LSUTigersFan). I liked the Three Sails hydrated, rather than bone dry (the way it ships). Picayune was great out of the tin. I have a tin of Ramback waiting to be smoked. I mixed the tin a bit with my finger, and I love the aroma. Now, I'm interested in what other D&R blends are favorites around here. The Ramback Balkan looks enticing, as does London Dock. What D&R is in your regular rotation?

...London Dock is a fine smoke...as are many of D&R choices...

I appreciate the way D&R packs their tobacco … saves time drying and money spent for water instead of tobacco. Also, the blends I have smoked from D&R are about as close to a whole-leaf blend as I've encountered. Good folks, good product!

Rimboché S.J. has to be the one of the best VaPers out there for the price. Great value on a good tobacco, I recommend. Its in my rotation. Scrooge introduced me to this one.

My favorite, which I’ve not smoked for quite a while is D&R Tobacco Rimboche AP. I have some jarred from 2012.
I too have Three Sails and definitely prefer this tobacco rehydrated, comes in a 14.oz bag dry like hay in the hot sun. I use this blend to mix or smoke straight 👍

Thanks all. My next order will be: Both Rimboches, Ramback Balkan, London Dock, VIP, and one other random one, not mentioned. Maybe a raccoon?

Two Timer Regular, not silver or gold. Reg is 100% Burley. I can say no more

Thanks all. My next order will be: Both Rimboches, Ramback Balkan, London Dock, VIP, and one other random one, not mentioned. Maybe a raccoon? There's three Rimboche blends: AP, AB, and SJ. I recommend all three. All the Raccoon bends are very good, but my fav is Raccoon's Delight. If you like a little yenidje, try Raccoon's Accent.
For the last four years, I've had various D&R blends in my rotation. Some I like better than others, but all of them use quality leaf.
VIP is AP Rimboche with a honey bourbon topping and light anise. The honey bourbon comes from Germany and is expensive and tasty. I cellared quite a lot of this one.

Thanks, JimInks. That makes VIP sound right up my alley. I love unique blends.

D&R is an outstanding brand... there is not a blend in the long lineup that I don't thoroughly enjoy... BUT.. my two favorites are Picayune and VIP - Desert Island pleasers!!! Wish I knew more of D&R history - something special here... D&R gets my highest recommendation.

Rimboche, all three varieties, are recommended. As touched on earlier, the blends come bone dry. This can be looked upon as a bonus. For example, if one rehydrates a 1lb bag, they end up with more than 16oz of smokeable tobacco. This makes Rimboche blends, already inexpensive, an even better deal compared to other "std moisture content" bulk blends.

Been smoking Two Timer Gold recently. I'm really enjoying it, but I'm a burley fan anyway.

Got a couple pounds of Penhooker...haven't tried rehydrating it...was dry as my tongue after a bad cold...wasn't impressed, but will have to hydrate it as others have been impressed with this brand.

I haven't smoked any of the D&R blends yet, but have a couple tins of Picayune that I can't wait to try. I've got Rimboche S.J. on my wish list.

PhantomWolf - Mark Ryan is just about solely responsible for ANY continuation in production of Perique. As I understand it, He and a partner bought the current production farms a few years ago, learned the process, work(ed) with the current producer(s), and have been keeping it alive. I'll throw money at them for that alone. It just so happens they make good pipe tobacco too!

I'm not a D&R smoker, but you all give them a great endorsement. I'll have to look at trying some in the future.

I use their Blender's Bench series tobacco to mix VA/OR blends and perique blends. They are top notch in every way. So far I've enjoyed their Izmir, Samsun, Grand Point Perique, and Decade Series Perique. For anyone looking for components for blending I can't recommend them enough!

Wish I knew more of D&R history - something special here... D&R gets my highest recommendation. Here's a link to their website. daughtersandryan.com/I live about an hour away from the Perique facility in St. James Parish and have been up there two or three times over the last four years. Last October I visited Mark there and he introduced me to the Perique cigars they had coming out. I also sampled a Perique liqueur from France that was fascinating. Daughter & Ryan also have large tobacco farms in the Carolinas.

I have to strongly agree that Mark and D&R are great. Now I have a question about ageing the D&R blends: since they are so dry, would it be good to hydrate them slightly when jarring them? I recall Greg Pease writing that a bit of humidity is beneficial to the ageing process.

After ageing your going to want to smoke it, not pulling it from storage and wait on rehydrating.

I've tried only Rimboché SJ, but with all the recommendations I'm going to try some different blends. I really like the SJ.

I know 2 guys that said Picayune was the worst blend they've ever had. I don't get it. To me, D&R is pure, unadulterated, pipe Tobacco. You kind of have to accept that. And, I like it BECAUSE of that. I'm not even sure how much casing they do. you're definitely not going to find any soaked, humectant laden stuff from D&R.
Edit: this is a positive statement, albeit a round about way to get there.

Yeah, it is best to withhold judgment on a blend without trying it yourself, be it tobacco or food.
Pretty sure I will never chance eating Haggis though.... and grape tobacco.

Never got around to hydrating this tobacco...but instead I rolled it up in some left over rolling papers to get the satisfaction of a good cigarette.
