My wife and I are taking a trip to Chicago this summer. I know I'm posting way early, but are there any B&Ms I should hit up while we're there?

ewan reis is the oldest and possibly the best pipe store in the US. You should try to be in Chicago during the pipe show. One of the best around.

If you go, sample 3 Star Dutch, 3 Star Ebony, & International Blend. I would not bother with the 3 Star Blue that is available all over, while the others are not. If you need a burley lat blast, Ko-Ko. Dr. Bradly is righteous, though different than International. Pick up a small tin of Distinguished Gentleman while there or order it anywhere. It's the Velvet Fog of tobacco, and a Double Secret Probation Iwan Reis Blend

Frank sold the collection. They crated every thing up and sent it to China. It was something to see though. Even the drawers in the bathroom were full of pipes.
Skip the tobacco at Iwan Ries the City, County and State tobacco sales tax are brutal. Check out the estate selection, they usually have a great selection. The lounge is very nice. I really like to hang out at 8to8 and the lounge at the Casa de Monticristo is great.

I would not skip the couple tobaccos I named. These have unique toppings on them. I guess the taxes can be offputting, but you may get a couple trial balloons and then order them online. They are cheaper in a tin than C&D is bulk.

Uhle's in Milwaukee is about 80 miles north of O'Hare Airport. If you like burley blends they have some outstanding ones.

I believe Iwan Reis eats some of the taxes to offset the cost in store. Maybe city tax?

Firstly, it is spelled Iwan Ries. Secondly, last time I was in Chicago, I believe taxes were 22.5% (state + county + city). Might be higher now. Parking is insane. But still worth the trip even if you’re just window shopping.

We're gonna use public transport.

Arlington pipe and cigar is out in the western burbs and is one of the places cpcc meets up for their monthly meetings and social smokes. I plan on going there for my next visit in early february. Olde chicago smoke shop is up near northpointe and has a nice selection of cigars and a great group of chatty regulars. Both are worth the extra time to get out of the city center and the olde one is right near the botanic gardens.

Montgomery, you go to Iwan Reis and enjoy some sampling, find the blends you really enjoy. While sitting in their lounge, place an order online and save the taxes. Issue resolved 👍👍

We're gonna use public transport. That 80% is the state excise tax that's built into the MSRP. It's pretty average. I'm talking about sales tax that's added to the price at the till. The lounge is private but you can buy a day pass.

On my last visit I explained I’m from out of town and will be placing an order online while sitting in “ your “ lounge. Plus I purchased a pipe that was a great deal at the shop. The lounge fee was waved.

If you have an issue with a member send him/her a PM, try and resolve. If you can’t resolve PM a Mod. No reason for this type of argument in an open forum. I see your point, but there is a proper place to resolve the issue. Good luck.
