Hey, all.
I would not normally write about (wait a second, of course I would) new software. I have been into computers for over thirty years and was into video-pc connections before they had such things.
Since 2001 my PC, Cable, DVD, TV have all been on the same monitor. When Blu Ray drives came out I was a happy orangutan. Ya gotta spend bananas to get bananas. The drives came with Cyberlink Power DVD. It loaded up so much crud on my PC that I called the Jonas Salk Foundation looking for the newest vaccine. No matter what you do, if you run your drive or not, the Blu Ray programs nail you in what used to be called "Terminate and Stay Resident," eating up your PC's grey matter. So, I started looking into Win-DVD. Clunky and barely worked. I am not sure if they sold out to Arcsoft or one of them, but the the paid versions were/are expensive. Like a dummy wanting to experiment with what I could, a hundred bananas bought Cyberlink Power DVD. I thought paying for it I would be able to turn off those dumb features like Mooveeelive and other things, like letting the whole world, especially your friends, know what you are watching ever three minutes. Kind of like Bing wanted your friends to know what you are searching for... uh, lavender tutus? The amount of programs that load up just when you boot your computer made me feel like a ravaged orangutan greasy spoon waitress. I had some public feuds with Cyberlink over that and why you can't change aspect ratios like you can on DVD.
For DVD's and videos I have been using VLC player, which I first discovered on my Mac; yes, I have had several. It says it will play Blu Ray, but in my experience only with a BR crack. I don't want to do that. I spend good money on Blu Rays and just want them to play!
Since my last two desktops burned out like an orangutan fart I have been using a wonderful ASUS laptop, though no CD/DVD/BR/BD/FBI/ABC/UTELLME drive. Bought a new USB one over the Ether, as I was too lazy to move a hundred pounds of tobacco to get to my electronics shelf for my others. Okay, I couldn't move that tobacco if I wanted to, save bowl by bowl.
Now we come to the nut of this, the gist, the upshot, the skinny, the intel, all the stuff that ain't no hooey from a guy named Looey. I know. You're saying, give it to me straight, Tate! Here it is: www.leawo.com/blu-ray-player/
This is free. No copyright issues. They don't ask for donations. They do sell other software and I will support it by buying some audio stuff.
This does not do all the BR menus to perfection, but if you click the menu item it shows you the video files on the player and you can click the one you want. It is actually less quirky than Power DVD. Did you hear that? Oops, or read that? This free program is not even one percent of the pain Cyberlink is.
Cyberlink's TSR's (Terminate Stay Resident) include things like Media Server. So, even if you friend doesn't see what you are watching or your High School principal, Cyberlink does! I don't care if I am not doing anything illegal. It's still my business.
I Just looked at my task manager> Nothing resembling Leawo software in there.
Have a drink. Have a smoke. Sit back and watch Eastwood and the Orangutan movies and enjoy. I get royalties
