Not much a guy can get up to on a Wednesday.. Maybe I'll take a trip over to the B&M around lunchtime. Smoke a pipe and treat myself to a tin or two, so I'm not just loitering.

Any plans for the IPSD on 20Feb? It's on a Wednesday, which befouls planning for most. Since the first one, I've celebrated with the NJ Fellowship of Pipe Smokers, which puts on a nice event at the JR Cigars in Whippany, even though the drive is about 3 hours (2 pipes). I've also met with the NYPC which lately does its thing at the Barclay Rex around Wall Street, typically on a weekend near the actual IPSD. hp les Date night here |

If vendors really wanted to celebrate the day, deeper discounts should be offered. On going hourly. flash sales, etc. - 10-15% sales for IPSD are less than some other events.
I think the vendors are taking the market for granted and not doing anymore than they feel they have to.
In short, IPSD should be the biggest sales day of the year.

I kept holding out my order hoping for a super secret last min sale also. I kept checking my emails to see if one would pop up. HA HA
Honestly though I don't blame them. They probably shouldn't have even done the 10%. Their business is being made harder every single day by anti smokers AND smokers. They need every penny I imagine. It seems no one is on their side ever. Tobacco will never be as cheap as it is now. That's true for us and them We all say cellar deep and wide as if we are on the front lines of the anti smoking war. We aren't they are. Not on this website but I remember a 5 page discussion once on how bad packaging sucked from a company when not 1 person in the 5 pages had received damaged tobacco. It just could have been damaged and they wanted answers! The companies cant win. If I owned a tobacco company I would have closed the doors years ago.
Working retail for the general public (even if they are awesome pipe smokers) is not something I wish on anyone.

I didn’t think Ilsted was in production anymore. you might be right. I got mine in Sep last year, but tobacco doesn't seem to fly off the shelves in the UK in the same way as USA. Maybe I got an old tin. |

The sales werent good enough to make me order anything. I placed 2 orders right before the sales started with TP and P&C. Had I waited a day, I would have saved a whopping $8. Now that SP charges me sales tax, 10% off isnt much. If they would have had what was on my list, I would have used them just for the free shipping. |

Im pretty glad I ordered last week from P&C when they had $20 off a $100+ order. I made two orders at $101 and $103 and got $20 knocked off each. Helped me load up on Plum Pudding Special Reserve and pipe cleaners. I basically made my own 20% off sale.

Out of town all week, but the good news is that I'm in Wichita, home of my favorite B&M - it has a fine smoking lounge and a decent selection of tobacco. If things go as planned, I'll spend some time there tomorrow evening. Which B&M is it? I end up in Wichita from time to time. Cigar Chateau 3049 N Rock Rd More of a cigar store but with a fair selection of pipes and tobacco. And they actually know something about what they sell! |
