As a charter P&T subscriber I take this as very bad news for the hobby.

Could it be a good thing?

I don't know if it's a good thing for the magazine per ser, but it seems like a healthy sing for the hobby that there's still a market for such a thing.

I didn't know there was a magazine for pipes smokers. Guess it might be a wrong time to subscribe?

I don't necessarily see it as bad. Some of their wording is interesting however: 'variety of tobacco and nicotine issues'. Why do they call out Nicotine? Just curious. Otherwise, Pipe and Tobacco were probably just offered a good price and took it. I don't know much about the holding company, but if Cigar and Leisure is part of the deal, there could be some benefits.

Considering in its present state it is only sold by a little over a handful of shops and most of those are online. I have never seen a copy in any tobacco shop ever maybe selling it is the best thing for it.

My tobacconist sells Pipes & Tobaccos magazine, as did a Florida shop that I used to visit on frequent business trips. However, I'm sure that most of the magazine's sales are thru subscriptions. I just hope the quality of the magazine isn't impacted.

Disappointing news.
1. Are there any other print publications other than the NASPC publication?

Disappointing news. 1. Are there any other print publications other than the NASPC publication? Not that I can think of. All the others fell away years ago. The European advertising ban took at least three that were dedicated to pipes and there was the short lived Pipe Smoker, Pipe Friendly and PCI here in the states. European Cigar Cult Journal had a pipe section that went away with new ownership.

P&T magazine will have one more issue before it's cancelled. Like I posted on another forum, what will happen to customers who had an extended subscription, I hope it doesn't turn out to be like the American Heritage magazine fiasco from just a short time ago.

Somebody else asked me that earlier today. I have no ideas on this.

Interesting comments. Why would they buy a magazine and then cancel it on the next issue? Not that it matters a great deal to me, as I never read it (or heard of it) in the first place.

Sorry, but I looked them up online and it doesn't look like they've published anything in years. Maybe I've missed something here.

Sorry, but I looked them up online and it doesn't look like they've published anything in years. Maybe I've missed something here. sperrytops Perry, it appears that TMA is in the business of statistics and information regarding tobacco and nicotine issues, and, they appear to be promoting networking and information events for the tobacco industry. In addition to the recent purchase of SpecComm International Inc., TMA also acquired TABEXPO Exhibition and Congress. Here's a link to an upcoming conference in Amsterdam come this November 12-14, 2019: TABEXPO AMSTERDAM 2019Now, whether or not another Pipes & Tobacco magazine will ever be produced again (maybe in digital form?), you can bet (possibly) that there will be a number of companies (probably such as Kohlhase & Kopp Laudisi Distribution Group et al) that will be attending to ascertain new networking, marketing, material sourcing, political climate issues, negative bills in the works locally, national, or international that will effect this trade, and so forth. Just my three cents for the time being

Interesting comments. Why would they buy a magazine and then cancel it on the next issue? Not that it matters a great deal to me, as I never read it (or heard of it) in the first place. The company that published P&T also published the dominant trade rags for vape shops and cigar vendors. I assume TMA is interested in the trade rags, not the consumer-facing publication.

TMA's "platinum sponsors" for their annual meeting are ITG Brands (Winston/Salem/Kool cigarettes) and Swedish Match (most of the snuff brands you've heard of, but also cigars)
These are not, shall we say, folks who are real focused on pipe tobacco.

They claimed when they bought SpeComm, who sold them the magazines, that they were going to keep publishing the magazines. Turns out, that wasn't the case. P&T wasn't a big money maker.

I'd be surprised if anyone gets refunded for the balance of their subscription. For a different publication I got shafted for my 10 month remaining paid subscription after only receiving 2 issues.
