Treebeard in a cob while removing tons of oxidation on this GBD stem. It's bad, the whole stem was brown... slowly getting there though

About a quarter of the way through this bowl of Esoterica Dunbar in a smooth straight late β50s, early 1960s Lane era Charatan Selected 43 Dublin with a black vulcanite double comfort stem. This pipe was formerly owned by actor William Conrad. A bottle of Cheerwine made with pure cane sugar is my drink.

First smoke of the day. Dunhill Flake in a Castello Old Antiquari half bent billiard. Reading the Patch instead of the newspaper. Much more enjoyable and far less stressful. With a cup of Peet's coffee. of course.

This pipe was formerly owned by actor William Conrad. A bottle of Cheerwine made with pure cane sugar is my drink. Please tell us how you came by Conrad's pipe, Jiminks. In the early 1980s, I had seen a photo of William Conrad, who is one of my favorite actors, and certainly my favorite radio actor, in a book with a brief discussion about his Charatan collection, which was the best in the world. He had a few pipes on his desk. As I like Charatans, I had wanted one of his pipes ever since, but never had an opportunity to get one. His family sold the collection after his death, and Sablebrush, who is a member of this forum, bought two of them in the mid-1990s.
In January of 2016, Jesse (Sablebrush) and I were talking on the phone. We started talking about Conrad, and when he realized how much I liked Conrad and how much and for how long I had wanted one of his pipes, Jesse said he'd make me a present of one of them. At the 2017 West Coast Pipe Show, he absolutely surprised me by gifting me the other one. Jesse said, "Nobody deserves them more than you. You waited over thirty years to get one, and you now have two. Was it worth the wait?", he laughed. I said, "Oh, yeah!!" If you ever want to hear the full details of these stories, you'll have to chat with me, because they are funny, but long.
