Don't have one and won't have one. I figured I lived my whole life without one, why do I need one now? How many here can even remember the standard desk set phone with a rotary dial? Although I have wireless push button phones in my home now it's only because nowadays depending on what sort of system your hooked up to the old dial phones won't work properly only letting you answer and not dial out. The problem with the technology nowadays is it's driven by big business and if they can't sell you something every few months or days they feel there not making enough money (Greed). Although, to be completely truthful I did have one for about a month or two and couldn't stand it but, it was for my trip from Utah back to Texas and until I got a landline hooked up at the new house, it now resides in a landfill somewhere.
I still have a few of the Dial phones and do plan to get them hooked up with the help of a adapter to state it simply.
How many here remember this? It's in my living room because Kim wanted one and let me have a Coke machine in the kitchen. When I got it my kids asked how it worked because they never saw a dial phone before.

Not only remember them but, used quite a few in my day. And remember when it was only a dime to make a call.

It is good to have a land line at the house. It seems the cell towers go down as often as the electric. But the land line never seems to go down. So it is good to have for emergencies. Intelligently choosing which parts of which new technologies enhance our lives is the key. Technology brings more choices, we need to chose carefully. I don't have a landline. I have a VOIP (Ooma), which has its pros and cons.
Pros: -I can take the box and a phone and have my home line anywhere with an internet connection. -I have two phone numbers, one Missouri number and one NY number (so people we know can call us local). Both ring to the house with different rings to differentiate which number is receiving the call. -It's cheap....like $15 a month (with an initial investment of around $100) with all the bells and whistles....without the extras, I'd just pay the tax and fees which is like $3-4 a month. -There is a community blacklist, and I can personally blacklist any number I want to always block incoming calls. I never ever get telemarketers or junk calls.
Cons: -If the power or internet goes out, we have no home phone. Although, in this instance, all calls are automatically forwarded directly to my cell phone, or any number I choose. I can also forward when we go on vacation.
The way I see it, if I really need a landline in an down-and-out emergency situation, I can always find somewhere to plug in and make a call. The closest junction box or a neighbors box.

One can give the wrong impression simply looking at their cell phone.
I was sitting in the lobby of a doctor’s office recently holding my phone straight in front of me so as to avoid the glare while I surfed the net. Peripherally, I noticed over the top of the screen, a woman was glaring at me...she was pretty good looking, I quickly figured that she thought I was either filming her or taking pictures... I wanted to say “Look miss... but that would have made it worse I reckoned... She probably thought I was Herbert the pervert.
