One of the greatest actors of the 20th Century, Albert Finney, passed away last night. I'm pretty sure I've seen all his films. In each of them he delivered a stunning performance.

Love everything he did. Waited a couple decades for his thriller The Green Man to be on DVD. Finally happened. RIP, good man

I’ve enjoyed every movie he was in, he was in many movies with some of the best female actresses of their time. Rest In Peace Albert Finney.

RIP, good man Sorry, I had to amend this post as I confused The Green Man with another of his films that came out in the early 70s, Gumshoe, which was a nostalgic if playful homage to the 40s noir films and 50s rock and roll. My father and I both enjoyed that one very much.

Great actor. Brought a lot to his roles. Wolfen was a box office loser but a cult classic. RIP.

Successfully avoided type casting after early fame as Angry Young Man in early 60's films and onto roles as diverse as his turn in Annie to Poirot. An actor's Actor . . . RIP.

RIP. Finney was truly a great actor. It's hard for me to pick my favorites, but I'm a big fan of Murder on the Orient Express (1974) and A Good Year (2006).

A giant has passed. Right up there with the best of the British actors.
Surely, I remember "Tom Jones" and how wonderful that was.
Irminsul is spot on about "Gumshoe".
I recall watching "Murder on the Orient Express", 1974 and wondering during the third reel, "When is Finney appearing?" His Poirot was so convincing, I never noticed the actor.
He played a great Churchill in one of the many biopics.
Sorry to lose him but we all must pay the Piper. RIP, Sir.

He played a great Churchill in one of the many biopics.
That was The Gathering Storm, made for TV. One of his many towering performances, and a special favorite of mine, was The Dresser. He did a spot-on evocation of the old-time actor on which the character of the dying tyrant "Sir" was based, Sir Donald Wolfit. A performance of incredible power, stamina, insight and imagination.

Your man played a terrifying government agent in one of the Bourne movies (Ultimatum?).

Yes, "The Dresser" was another great role. I still recall stopping the train. An actor's first duty is to be heard.

He was the best Scrooge (on film, not on The Patch). I grew up watching his version of Scrooge every year. He was also brilliant in Big Fish. Not terribly well know, but a master of his craft.

Shoot the Moon with Diane Keaton. A real downer of a movie (too real) about going through the big D. Nothing has to be said when the Finney character figures out he f'd up and there ain't no fixing it. It's written all over his face. One of the best endings ever.
