I can't imagine how that show was allowed to go into the public domain. You'd think it'd be kept in copyright. Anyway, you can go here and watch the Jim Hutton series for free: archive.org/details/ElleryQueenSeries
It was a great series, much better than Murder, She Wrote, which I always considered to be Ellery Queen in drag.

In the pilot episode, I had to laugh when Ellery said the murder suspect smoked a "mild pipe tobacco... heavy on the latakia".

I think Ellery Queen was the only who-dun-it series that confounded the wife on her crime solving abilities.

Here's Jim's son Timothy Hutton paying homage to his father:

I bought the DVD set when it came out after years of suffering the vhs tapes. Like Nero Wolfe, Chaykin and Conrad, it was a must
I can't find where it was put in PD, though. Archive.org is one of my most valuable sources, but not all of their stuff is PD. Anyway, if the film companies put out good work on reasonably priced volumes, I'll pay for it.
Example of the opposite: First year of Highway Patrol with Broderick Crawford in PD. Season cost 53 bucks when decent copies can be legally sold for 12 bucks

I have the Rat Patrol! complete series..a lot of fun if you are a gun nut. Sadly, a stunt Christopher George performed when he took a blow to the heart led to an early death years later.

Guess that has changed.

That Irish Walking Hat was Hutton's own, not the studio's. It was his poker hat, too. Hutton's neighbor, Mad magazine writer/artist Dave Berg once told me this funny story: one night they were playing cards, and Hutton was winning nearly every hand. Actor David Wayne, who played Inspector Queen in the series - and was a cranky sort - got mad, and took the hat off of Hutton's head. "You've won enough hands. Now, it's my turn to have some luck." Wayne won four hands in a row, and Hutton grabbed the hat off of Wayne's head, and put it back on his, saying, "You've had enough luck tonight. This is my lucky hat"
