So earlier in the year I had some John Bull on the way via Cbid, or at least I thought until I learned my payment information wasn't up to date. I simply let that one go.
Fast forward to this week and with the colder weather my pipe smoking is picking up steam and I keep thinking back to the sample of John Bull that cramptholomew sent met in our blind tasting. I smoked two bowls of it and then craved more. In its absence I dipped in my royalty jar, my john cotton #1 jar and even my PS EOS jar. All are great blends and top notch english examples but there was just something about that John Bull.
Well I finally nabbed 3 pouches on cbid for $1 each ($10 total with shipping) and they are on their way. Looking forward to crisp mornings and some John Bull.

It could be that the John Cotton and EOS are heavier on the orientals. John Bull doesn't contain orientals. In accordance with that, these are some other suggestions: Old Joe Krantz Red Newminster English Luxus PS English Luxury Watch City Terrapin Station Inns of Court SPC Yakima Valley C&D Engine #99

I picked up a pouch as well. I smoked it this weekend. I wasn't as impressed as some. There was something I didn't like about the taste between puffs. To me it was a middle of the road English. Not bad, not great. I think there are better options out there. As far as value goes, the price for the pouch was well worth the tobacco inside. I have smoked a lot worse that cost a lot more. Sums it up for me, it would be a nice pouch to score in a convenience store if I found myself out of tobacco... better than Captain Black or Sir Walter Raliegh.

Sorry to hijack your thread. I agree about John Bull. It's no fuff, and doesn't let you down. I know you didn't ask for recommendations, but I posted them anyway.
That said, what I meant to add is that I *think* English blends with the addition of burley are referred to as American English.
Cornell and Diehl make a pretty good selection, if you're interested. In addition to the ones I posted above, Morley's Best, Constellation, and Bailey's Front Porch might toot your horn as well.
