I cannot confirm it, but John R was said to be traipsing around on that hillside...ran out of matches and started doing his firestorm Mohawk dance.... (he is fom NY) his cob got lit, but so did his Hanes. The black cloud above was produced prior to his pipe going out.....

I am guessing that the Park service has a webcam and captured it...I agree, that is a hell of a shot!

Ran up from the Phoenix metro area to Payson today to see some of that white stuff. It was funny - it's an 1 1/2 drive and 15 minutes into it, lines of cars were pulled over to take photos of snow on the mountain peaks.
Once in Payson, we risked getting stuck in the snow (driving a sedan, not an SUV) in a McD's parking lot, had a burger and fries, and descended back down the mountain. But, the snow up there was the heaviest I've been in in 30 years - that says more about me than the snow.
My wife kept saying, "Who could think this would happen in Arizona?" I kept saying, "Everyone who lives in Flagstaff." I got no traction. ::ba-da-boom::

Heard from my renter in Flagstaff last night that they had over 40 inches of snow on the roof. Bless her for hiring a couple guys to knock it down otherwise I'd be up there tomorrow on my day off!

I recall snow in Phoenix during December 1960 or so while visiting my Great Uncle and Aunt. It did not last long.

In the 80’s the same thing in Los Angeles... I was delivering to a cruise ship in Long Beach.... It didn’t last long, but I had to go over the Grapevine... that sucked... tried to go east and take Tehachapi over, and got shut down.

My wife ran across this pic of the Grand Canyon....that is one heck of a lightning bolt. holy crap. If that's a real photo it's impressive.

It's real alright … I've seen those TOO close in person! One time we were camping out on Point Sublime and watched a storm roll towards us with lightning striking every point jutting out on its way. Needless to say, we moved our butts way back and got as flat as possible for awhile!

We got what must have been the tail end of this storm yesterday morning. Predictions were 7- 9 inches with wind gusts at 65mph. Fortunately it was more like 4” of wet snow with 25 mph gusts. Today it is decent smoking weather, 45 degrees, on the back porch. And no giant lightning bolts, so far!
