I find the stories highly interesting, so keep sharing. I am more curious what your job/place is in these stories? How have you met these great musicians? I understand they are just people but it is still cool to meet people whom I find very interesting. I’ve met a few of my favorite musicians and I usually have a thousand questions but never ask because I don’t want to be annoying.

Martin, I like your stories. Did you piss in somebodies Cherios? ...the only piss story I have is meeting Michael York in the men's room at Tavern on the Green in NYC... nowhere near as good as Mark's experience... In the 1990s, I was at a San Diego Con and as I was headed toward the men's room, I saw Jerry Lewis was a step ahead of me. We did chat for a minute or two, and then went our respective ways. When I told this story later, my idiot sister asked if I got his autograph. I said, No, he was kind of busy at the time."

I met quite a few celebrities while in the Coast Guard. Most of my career was as a photojournalist/public affairs specialist so I got to do things like serving as a technical advisor for a couple of TV shows and movies. I made it a point to never ask the stars for autographs but I did ask the people I dealt with if they could get the autographed photos for me. I always figured that unless they signed something in front of you, it was probably a photo signed with an autopen or just a reproduced photo with their signature on it.
One of my fondest memories was meeting Kirk Douglas on Governors Island, NY in 1986. I was the Coast Guard liaison for CBS and CNN who had set up studios on top of the building I lived in for the re-dedication of the Statue of Liberty. I was on the ground floor waiting for the rain to stop so I could get to the other end of the island when one of the CBS producers asked if I needed a ride. He then opened the front door of a limo and told me to get in. Had a 10 minute conversation with Mr. Douglas as we rode to the ferry terminal. The CBS person thought Mr. Douglas would be pissed about giving someone a ride, but Mr. Douglas thanked me for the hospitality he had been shown by the Coast Guard instead.

Yes, if I share a story it isn't second-hand... it's my personal experience... that's why I think it's OK to relate it... like the time I spent with Jerry Garcia in Marin County or Stephen Sondheim in New York City...
