So I checked out Davidoff tobaccos. They are selling at around £20 per 50g tin. Most other tobaccos are around £14 per 50g tin.
What's going on there? Are their tobaccos considered better than the others?

That's interesting. In thenStates they run they same as most others, some less. $8-10 a 50g tin.

They were trying to sell tins in the Narita in Japan for like 34 GBP. Sorry, I'll pass.

OK so it's not just a UK thing.
Anyone know why their prices are higher?

Like with a Dunhill pipe ... you get to pay for the name on top of the product itself.

I have smoked Danish and Scottish mixture. I thought they were good but not worth paying extra for.

@ Smokingpipes you can purchase Davidoff tobacco’s in the tin for $7.69 to $10.29. Prices here are definitely cheaper.

It's branding thing, full stop. They are mostly average-decent-good blends made by Orlik, slapped with Davidoff branding on the tin. Flake Medallions and Royalty to some degree are the only blends that get any attention, and I suspect they're not unique. Their cigars command insane prices, though are genuinely excellent.

Davidoff cigars are in a special class of outstanding quality tobacco’s. Nothing like their pipe tobacco’s, which I can take or leave. The Flake Medallions being my favorite by far!!!

I actually like the "Scottish Mixture."
It is one of the better readily-available whiskey-topped tobaccos. It's what you might wish Borkum Riff were -- a good base tobacco blend with a gentle whiskey topping.

I did pick up some duty free Davidoff cigarettes, which for some reason are amazing in the Japan variant. Davidoff Flake Medallions are very good and worth the slight uplift in price.

I assume the price difference is primarily because Davidoff is a "luxury/status" brand. That’s certainly the vibe that I’ve gotten when I’ve been in Davidoff stores. But the diff that I’ve seen is just a couple of dollars.
As others have said, DFM is a great blend and worth the price. I like it far better than Escudo. To me, I don’t smoke them unless they have at least two years of age. Over time, I’ve built up my aging queue so that I have gotten to being able to pull 5 year old tins out of my cellar.

...some of these "luxury" brands (including cigars) seem to me to be "branded" or "labeled" for some "name" such as Davidoff or others. Yes, I see that Davidoff claims to have been around since 1911, but I can do fine without them. Snooty to bump the price pisses me off...

Agreed on the pipe tobacco - there's really no justifiable reason. It's like slapping "Louis Vuitton" on a tin stuffed with 1Q. But their cigars really are excellent and difficult if not impossible to match with another brand. I'm not sure they're worth the huge premium over other great reliable cigar brands like Fuente, but there's no denying the quality. If anyone's interested in trying the Davidoff "profile", they have a couple of cheap-o seconds brands that are seriously good for the price ($2-3 each): Private Stock long filler, and 3x3 tubos. I'd say they give you 75% of the high-end stuff at a tiny fraction of the cost.

That will change soon, I'm sure. Davidoff pipes have had pretty poor reviews here in the States. Very overpriced for the quality. Some think Dunhill is overpriced, but at least the quality is there. .

The only Davidoff pipe tobacco I've smoked was "Green Mixture" thanks to P&Cs screw up. It tasted like nothing to me. After reading this I might have to give Flake medallions a try

Davidoff pipes are pretty nice Italian pipes if that's your bag. Good engineering, excellent sandblasting. They are significantly overpriced but I don't think anyone is paying sticker. The discounts can be very, very deep in a Davidoff store.

Yves Saint Laurent and Cartier used to put their name on freaking cigarettes.
And not even fancy cigarettes. Just regular filter-tips made by SEITA or PM or whoever.

All Davidoff products are priced high. I enjoy their cigars, but I won’t pay $20 bucks when I can buy something similar for $10. HOWEVER, I highly recommend Davidoff mini cigarillos (gold). . . They are heavenly !

I have Flake Medallions, Royalty and Scottish Mixture. Flake medallions is a must have for me now (but might get overtaken once I age some Bullseye Flake). Royalty is a great smoothed over english. Haven't had enough time with scottish mixture.
I am averaging about $9 a tin on these where I get them. To me, Flake Medallions is worth more while the others so far are about right for that price.
