Question for discussion...
Do you plan your next smoke or do you just see where the wind takes you?
I normally plan to some extent. So, for example, after my peaches and cream this afternoon in my cob, I'm thinking Ashton Artisan's in my falcon will be my next combo.
Does anyone else plan like that or do you go to your tobacco cellar and pipe collection and pick whatever calls you?

Sure, depends on what Iām in the mood for at any particular moment. I do contemplate a bit before deciding. Great question ššš

Since the pipe rack and some of my tobacco is in view of my normal spot for watching television, I usually consider what my next smoke will be. I also have a drawer that I check before deciding. However, I do keep a large jar of Arango Balkan Supreme next to me on the side table. My favorite pipe sits on top. Box matches and the IM Corona Pipemaster lighter are within reach as well.

Often, but not always. Sometimes mid-smoke a blend will trigger an idea for I want next. (Other times, as I'm lazy), I'll go to the shelf and plan out a 4-5 pipe flight, so I don't have to put down what I'm doing to go back to the shelf.

I do in the sense that my first morning smoke is always the same (for however long the blend/quantity lasts). I usually plan a burley forward smoke after dinner.

I have so many new blends that I want to try, when it comes time to refill one of my smaller rotation jars, I give a fair amount of thought to what I'd like to smoke for the next month or so. But when it comes time to fill a pipe, I go by what I'm in the mood for, and which pipe seems to go with that.

I only plan on smokes if I'm going somewhere. Like, I take specific jars/tins to pipe night, or what I think I'll want on a given occasion. The rest of the time, I usually just go look in my cabinet or shelves to see what I haven't had in a while. Whatever calls to me, I smoke.

Not really, as my latakia obsession has me reaching for similar blends next to each other.

I only plan my next smoke after I finish my last smoke. I try to vary my diet during the day, try to smoke a Virginia, a Latakia, maybe an aromatic as well. Sometimes a lot of discussion on the Patch about a blend makes me reach for that one next.

I forgot to add 'Monkey See Monkey Do' hahaha I often post my smoke here and one of you guys' recent smokes catches my eye and I go straight for it. Guilty of this as well. Most of the time I just want a pipe. The experience, the slowing of time, and the time to myself to detach and sit and think. Sometimes I get a craving for a tobacco and then I pick a pipe to go with it. Other times I hear one of my lonely pipes calling out to me and I pick a blend for the pipe. Most of the time I sit in front of my bookcase absolutely clueless, grabbing jars and waiting for that one to stand out. When I cant decide... its SWRA. The only time I really plan a pipe is when I'm heading to Walt's. I have one packed for the ride down and one on the way home.

About the only one I plan is what I take to smoke while I'm working and sometimes it's just the pouches that I keep in the van in case I forget to grab something to smoke. When home it's whatever strikes my fancy or a suggestion from the WAYS thread. I've been introduced to a lot of blends from WAYS.

Being less of a hobbyist myself, my selection has no rhyme, reason, or planning. I'll grab a pipe and tobacco based on the mood at that given moment.

I plan to get out and smoke as often as I can when Mother Nature gets her meds stabilized, or sobers up. Whichever comes first. All kidding aside, I really don't plan which tobacco I am going to smoke. Mostly because I am still in the quest for that "moment", where everything comes together. ExChef

I currently have 50 small jars/tins on my "smoking shelf", and 48 pipes on my pipe shelf, all in my basement. On the way down the stairs, I think about which way I'll head first, tobacco or pipes with a decision based on what strikes my fancy. Then I'll roughly match one to the other based on what I'm learning about how my pipes smoke particular tobaccos. I'm very much in the experimental phase but am narrowing the choices. If I'm smoking later in the evening I'll start with Va, VaPer, or VaBur options, usually two pipes and finish with a Balkan or English/Lat blend for "dessert". Afternoon smoking is more more open with the occasional Aro or English. It's always a roll of the dice what wins out. And as has been mentioned the WAYS thread is an influence as is what's being smoked in the chat room.
So, do I plan my next smoke? Not all that much.

I've started to plan my smokes according to pipes I haven't tried with the tobacco I'm enjoying. I am so new to all of this I think this will lessen the learning curve and increase my overall enjoyment.

Like those above me, I have so many choices that I just reach out...many times I see something in the thread and that peaks my interest, like others above, grab a pipe and go to it. I've noticed that since I stained all my cobs, that I reach for a cob many times before reaching for a briar...my meers take some real thinking about them...and my sole Ron pipe...that one I try to match a blend that will give me as much pleasure as that pipe gives me. Ron's pipe is special, I treat it as royalty...handle it with care as if it were a baby...why you might ask, because it is special. A gift out of the blue from a guy that I hold in deep respect. He's always been a hard worker, his style and eye for beauty is unlike any other. He is a craftsman and a special person in my life...I always wanted one of his pipes, knew I couldn't afford one, but loved to look at the beauty...and then one day, there it was...a special delivery on a Saturday night...couldn't believe it, but I had it in my hand...like a miracle, and it was. What a Christmas that was.

I don't plan anything. For pipe smoking, I just head to the shelf and grab whatever looks good and a pipe dedicated to that style of tobacco.

I almost never plan out my smokes. When I am working, and take a break to list what I had just finished smoking, the whole time, I'm trying to decide what's next. I'm slow in making up my mind about it.

The rest of the time, I usually just go look in my cabinet or shelves to see what I haven't had in a while. Whatever calls to me, I smoke. I do the same for pipe night with Cramptholomew in that I pull a blend for us to smoke and try together. Usually its something new to us both. Other than that, I keep a camera bag with pipes, folded paper towels, pipe cleaners, lighters, tampers and six blends that are in my current rotation. From there I will grab whatever I am feeling at that time from my six. When a blend is finished from what is in my bag, I choose something to replace it. Sometimes its by just wanting it or its to go with that time of year. For example, I got a bowl left of Erin Go Bragh Irish Whiskey because of Saint Patrick's day and few bowls left of Russ Ouellette's The Taxman Cometh as it is that time of year. Once they are complete, lord only knows what I'll replace them with.

Since I've usually only smoked 3 to 4 blends on a regular basis it's usually what's close at hand. No planning just load and smoke. K.I.S.S. it !
