If you look at the entire tobacco inventory at SP, it seems 40-50% of selections are out of stock. All the usual tinned suspects, but bulk as well. Even Carter Hall is out of stock. A lag in the supply chain?

Reading up on the compliance changes, they don't seem too concerned about pipe tobacco.
I'm certain you guys know more than I do, but I've often wondered what you all are talking about when referring to changing FDA regulations.

A lot of states charge you for what is on the shelf at tax time so it makes sense to reduce inventory. Some states will tax a item every year even if it has not moved. A good store manager will only order what turns gone are the days of that place has everything in stock. Government at work destroying everything they touch.

I think “not currently” is the keyword... that could change quickly within the bowels of regulatory minded bureaucrats. Having watched the incremental negative views on tobacco products over decades, and the influence that NGO organizations have on driving policy in them circles, I don’t think it is crying wolf to say that things will be worse for us in the future. There is certainly no downside in cellaring away blends... from either a financial, or regulatory standpoint.... no downside for preparedness. Worst case scenario, you have aged blends cheaper than you can get them in the future.

It's pretty simple. Pipe tobaccos that have been sold in the American market continuously since before February 15th 2007 are grandfathered in for now. Pipe tobaccos that were introduced to the market on or after February 15th 2007, but prior to August 8th 2016, need to comply with the FDA deeming process to remain available for sale after August 8th 2022. Pipe tobacco blends introduced after August 8th 2016 must apply and received approval from the FDA prior to being introduced to the US market.

But, pipe tobacco is on the cultural fringe...an old relic from days past that most people just kind of overlook. The general public isn't put off by pipe smokers because the two never really mix, which is great for those of us who enjoy it. Hopefully it stays that way.
I didn't mean to imply any negative connotations toward cellaring tobacco, I think it is common sense to cellar. At best, you are ensuring your enjoyment for the future...at worst, it is a relatively secure financial investment.

I didn’t mean to imply that you did... just an added thought... I can see why my comment was perceived that way.
