The film which you are about to see is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of five youths, in particular Sally Hardesty and her invalid brother, Franklin. It is all the more tragic in that they were young. But, had they lived very, very long lives, they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much of the mad and the macabre as they were to see that day.
For them an idyllic summer afternoon drive became a nightmare. The events of that day were to lead to the discovery of one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Does anyone else remember this movie? I remember going in to see it when I was like 25 years old in a cinema with a group of girls - it was THEIR idea to see this one1!! There was one stunner in particular I was keenly interested in. The film kind of spoiled that romance! There were people vomiting in the aisles, people got up and left! I enjoyed it! However, it changed me forever, especially when I found out that it was based on a true story, old Ed Gein.

I watch it almost everytime I see it on TV. Our Movie theater does "throwbacks" and if I ever see it on their line-up, I'll be there.

Reminds me of Miami when the Colombians came to town...cocaine was the name of the game back then...and they were serious about taking over the trade...if you saw Scarface you got an idea...except it was real and they were serious...another reason I left Miami...too much of that same attitude was a little too prevalent.

Walt, that gave me a good laugh...thanks👌👍👍 I busted a number of them back in the day, during a big crack down on the drug cartel. That I’m sure you remember if you lived there long enough.

I don't like the name I can almost guarantee that no one was ever assaulted with a chainsaw. Guns, knives, arrows, ice picks, hammers, etc., yes. They just put "Texas" in the name because everything sounds better after "Texas". I refuse to ever watch it. I also won't watch "Ed Gein". I don't believe in making movies about serial killers. We had 40+ boys raped and murdered in the neighborhood that I grew up in. I don't speak their names

I’ve seen enough violence and death in my lifetime.......unnecessary loss of life. I’m not into movies of this nature.

I am too young to have every seen it in the theaters when it was first released. But, I don't think it ever plays in theaters around here, though. The original is definitely my favorite. I do not like any of the remakes with the exception of the 2003 version. That one was not bad. But, still not as good as the original.

I think in order to understand and appreciate this film genre, you must first understand that it isnt meant to be taken too seriously. If you take films like this TOO seriously, its impossible to get any entertainment out of it. But its also an art form. Tobe Hooper did well with this one. Its considered a classic even today in the genre. I remember in the 70s I also got into Italian giallo films - especially anything with Edwige Fenech in it. All the Colours of the Dark, for example. What a babe she is. Dario Argento movies and Mario Bava were both great directors, too.

Ron said: "I can almost guarantee that no one was ever assaulted with a chainsaw"...maybe not in the movie, but the fact that the Colombians who were in the process of taking over the coke trade in Miami, did, in fact, do that. The Colombian "neck tie" was another of their attempts to intimidate the Cubans and Anglos who, at the time, were the big movers of coke. The Colombian "neck tie" was where they slit the throat of the person and pulled their tongue through. I saw the results of both, first hand, and never want to again see anything that violent again. Humans are the most violent of all the specie that walks this earth.

Dealing with flashbacks of two decapitations, ( much more which I’d rather not describe ) another reason I don’t sleep well. This was way before my illness. So, to revisit this in a horror movie that I know and realize is “ fake, not real “ still brings back a horrifying period in my life that I’d much rather forget.

I used to watch a lot of those slash movies when I was younger. They were funny more than anything else. Now I avoid them like the plague. Though I think Scarface was an amazing movie.

The movie Scarface was more true than not...I lived there, saw the results of the gang wars, remember seeing two cars side by side running down US1, machine guns blasting at each other...saw enough not to want to see it in the movies...real life was bad enough. Ted and Josh;'s uncle knows from real life what it means...so do I.

I was stationed in Miami from 82 through 85 and worked several major drug operations. I remember those days well. Even got a nice commendation from the Bice-President’s South Florida Drug Taskforce.

It was loosely based on Gein, sure. But the whole movie targeted a specific generation's very real fears. A van full of hippies gets stuck out in the middle of yokel country in Texas with inbred wackos with powertools. Its basically "Deliverance" on steroids. But totally not meant to be taken seriously. I like to turn my mind off, not on, at the pictures. Horror is good stuff. It can get really artistic too. While TCSM was more gritty and grindhouse, Dario Argento's work like Suspiria and Deep Red are basically arthouse films with a violent kick. Real mysteries involved, also. I almost never watch new movies. These new horror films they make today aren't anything like they were back then. I did enjoy the new Halloween reboot, though. The Jamie Lee one that was just released, I mean.

I have the opposite view of movies. I want an interesting story or a plot that makes you think. Not into mindless. To each his own.

I don't want every movie to be an escape from reality mindless break from life. But I also don't want every movie to be a thought provoking intellectually stimulating affair. I'm the same way with books. I could find myself reading Dostoyevsky this month and an anthology of modern ghost short stories next month. And, I'm the same with the types of food I eat, tobacco I smoke, alcohol I drink, trips I take, etc. Variety is the spice of life.

Variety is the spice of life for sure. Life is short. I choose not to occupy my time watching slasher pics. I would rather squander my time here chatting with you all.🤡

Nothing wrong with a good horror flick full of BBB screaming and running for there lives. I try to save them for Halloween time. I like that Chucky guy the worst puppet ever. Jason with his mask. Freddy with his wolverine nails.

Even with the variety in my life, there are certain blends, foods, films genres, etc I just don't enjoy. So I avoid them.

I’ll put my 2 cents in, seen enough horror in real life, but whatever you like , hey it’s America, I like s good story, maybe a tall tale, that’s why I’ve graviated to British stories, they tell a good tale, like Dr Finley, Dr in the moors and stories about the patients, older I get the less I like the shoot em up , blow em up crap.
