Chico -- I just checked some dusty drawers, and think I have several of the stem model that the 305 uses. (unused and original, not aftermarket) Shoot me your pipe and I'll fit one to it as a freebie. George Wow, what a kind offer - thanks!

This thread has me ponderin..... Don't mean to offend anyone here, but I'm not really a fan of the P-Lip stems on several of my Petersons. I know, I know, sacrilege right? :-( I would actually like to replace them with standard stems. So, if anyone out there knows where I could do this, I'd be very interested in doing so. And would be much more inclined to smoke these beauties much more frequently than I currently do. Dino I'm pretty sure the website I posted above has standard stems available too. I almost purchased one once. That's how I know.

Fini. Will be headed back to Chico this afternoon. . Nice! That looks GREAT! balticbriar -- I don't know that anyone addressed your question. The Army Mount is not meant to allow for an easier replacement stem should you break the original. The design is meant to prevent the breaking of the stem or shank in the first place. Unlike a standard mortise-n-tenon stem, an Army Mount stem can be separated from the stummel without having to wait for the pipe to cool.

I guess I just inferred that the stems were easier to replace due to the stem being a tapered friction fit.

But I also thought similarly when my out-of-warranty iPhone battery needed to be replaced, and you should see it now. Suffice it to say that I now own a cheap Motorola.

George D in for the save! Great thread, well done all.
Is there a supply of preformed stems similar to that which you can then bend to order and/or reduce the width of the tenon?
