it was 7 years ago today I underwent the most important transformation in my life. In the photo below, the guy on the left weighed in at around 370, had diabetes, stage 2 hypertension, and a whole host of other issues related to weight. It was at that stage, his doctor said to him (paraphrasing here) “dude, you are about 3 feet from a heart attack and your daughter will grow up without you. do something!”. That was in 2011. In 2012, I had GBS surgery, lost about 160lbs, got healthy. My daughter was able to wrap her arms around me for the first time in her life. Here it is 7 years later, I’ve put about 25ish of the lbs back on due to back and knee issues keeping me from my bike, but that will be resolved. Anyway, not much else to say about this, I now return you to your regularly scheduled reading! ExChef Sorry for the scary size picture of me!

Good for you sir, keep up the good work. I'm sure it wasn't a stroll in the park to achieve it.

You should be very proud of what you achieved. Many try but fall short of their personal goal. You actually look 10 to 12 years younger!!
Cheers.....to your good health🎈🎉🎊🎈🎉🎊🎈🎉🎊🎈🎉🎊

You did good, ex chef...once you are a chef, you are always a chef, cause you still have the skills and knowledge... it took a lot of will power to want to do it and be with your family now and as long as you can...so good for you, you do look a lot better and I'm sure you feel a lot better, too.

Congratulations, well done!
I feel bad for people that have the metabolism/ genetics that can seem to add weight it seems by looking at food...that must be one heck of a challenge to do what you accomplished.
Keep on, keepin on!

Congrats dude.. Did your diabetes actually reverse? Yes it did. I was one of the lucky ones, doesn’t happen for everyone. It’s part of the reason I also started participating in the American diabetes association’s New England classic tour de cure in 2013. It’s a great event with a great group of folks. ExChef

That mustache is a serious achievement, too! Chico, 50th birthday gift from mrs chef. One of my best friends has been sporting ‘bars for a few years and she saw him then said “you’d look good with one”. So off I went, that fall she decided I needed a pipe to go with it. And I fount the patch and y’all got stuck with me. ExChef

Good for you! You got to love it when someone steps up and takes care of themselves rather than expecting someone else to do it for them.
