I grew up so far out in the woods in western Pa. I still have a hard time believing what life was like back then. And it hasn't changed a lot! I remember a poor family that had two sons and when the school bus came to their house we would often have to wait until the boys would come crawling out of the coal mine in the back yard with enough coal for their mother to get through the day.
We got 3 TV stations and I had to climb a ladder to the roof and rotate the antenna to change channels. There was nothing to do but ride bikes and play in the woods, and I loved it! It was about 9 miles to my school and it was all back roads, uphill both ways of course! I was amazed then, and am even more amazed now, at how many abandoned homes there were out in the woods. Big homes! Overgrown by weeds and trees, still furnished, and of course haunted until I reached the age of 10 or 12
The link below is a place which was abandoned out in the woods and keep in mind that the average home back then in western Pa. was very meager, sometimes little more than a shack! There was one boy near my age who lived within a mile or two of me and we used to ride our bikes 5 miles through the woods and go exploring at this place; it was all boarded up with white sheets over the furniture just like in all the good horror movies!
I believe it has been renovated into a religious retreat!

I was born and lived in a very small town in western N.Carolina in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you crossed over the border into Tennessee They were called the Smokey Mountains. Most folks back then were farmers just about all included Tobacco in what they grew..We moved to Detroit when I was eleven. When I retired I moved back to Carolina. Not to my home town though.I'm about an hour down the road in a small city. Not too far from Charlotte. My friends say that I have become citified what ever that means.
A little side note..Detroit is actually two words combined..I'm told at one time it was spelled..DeTroit De meaning The and Troit meaning Straight Detroit is on the Detroit River which runs between some of the great lakes..So much for trivia that you're totally not interested in.

I grew up right in the centre of Belfast during the 'troubles'. Strange thing is that I never really knew there were any troubles. I was used to armed soldiers walking the streets... It was the norm for me so I didn't think twice about it.
It was only when the ceasefire happened and was broken that I felt unsafe.

I grew up in a pretty normal home in a pretty normal neighbourhood. However, one day I followed a rabbit with a pocket watch down a rabbit hole. He just kept saying he was going to be late over and over again. Everything has been quite bizarre in my life since that day.

Grew up in the same town I live in now. Left a couple times in my early twenties but always came home. Might not be the greatest place in the world but it's home.

The Heights, which once was a separate town on the northwest side of downtown Houston. I grew up there and in near north Houston. No freeways back then. Even after they came the town wasn't Big City. I also rode my bike 5 miles through the woods to my friends house, all inside what is now the inner loop. It's changed a bit.

Grew up in the DFW metroplex before it became a metroplex. That would have been in the 50s thru 60s when there were fewer folks here. Went off to the University of N.Vietnam in 69 to get my Masters in death and destruction. Came home in 70 and went thru 3 marriages and 15 years ago I bought the house next to my parents as rental property. Then went thru my last divorce and moved into the house and I having taking care of my 94 yo mother ever since.

The last Bobby I saw in London was carrying a H+K smg and wearing a bullet proof jacket. When I was here we got pulled over at a PSNI road block outside Newtownards. The officers were dressed in shirt sleeves! Something very strange has happened to the UK!

I'm 65 and now it seems to have happen so fast, where'd it all go? Just yesterday standing in a hardware store I saw those little balsa airplanes we used to buy for twenty five cents, of course after what seemed like an hour of begging your Mom for the quarter. We'd run out and putt'em together and it seemed like maybe a 15-20 minutes went by and sure enough the dadburn thing would land high in a tree or atop someones house that was just unreachable. But damn, it was fun while it lasted.
Grew up in a pretty small town but, not too small to not have schools and such, that I remember. It was somewhere between the sunrise and the sunset where the grass was so green in the summer it was hard to believe. Don't really remember to many Winters of Falls but, I reckon that was part of being a kid, everyday just blended into the next except Christmas. Christmas was certainly a special day that only came once a year. I reckon Christmas was the best day all year. You couldn't even get in trouble it seemed on Christmas, everything was good..... Anyway, that's where I grew up or at least where I wanted to grow up.

Same place I live to this day, a little town on the East coast of Florida, about thirty minutes south of the Space Center. Very near I Dream of Jeannie land.
The area I live in has changed a lot during my lifetime. Sometimes I think of moving to someplace cooler and less crowded. But I probably won't. It is very nice watching my son grow up and go to the same schools that his Mom and me went to. And I like running into old friends at the grocery store.

My favorite "Troubles" song is "There Were Roses" by Tommy Sands. When I first heard it I thought my family had been Catholic, but found the opposite to be true. Song works for both sides."The one's who give the orders are not the ones who die".

Born in South Louisiana, 1943, named after General Bradley, grew up moved to Brownsville Texas in 4th grade, Dad started Shrimping industry there big time, note about 15 boats followed him because he was the only one who knew how to plot a course. Fought every day with the Mexicans because of making fun of my Grandmothers feed sack shirts, they finally stopped, I’m not a quitter, moved back to Louisiana, at 15 helped Dad recover bodies in Cameron LA from Hurricane Audrey, little did I know it was training for S Asia as I joined the Navy in 60. Wounded, sent back, did my tour, went home, lived on my Grandfather farm to get used to being a civilian. Roughnecked for a while, married, took Exxon’s test with about 500 others, they only hired 50, I had to take a 💩 so bad I flew thru the test, I always say having to take a 💩 is what got me a job at Exxon. Worked 31.5 try, Cancer survivor, heart bypass, never thought I’d see 76. I’ve been blessed to have a good wife and good children,
