To which I ask the guy....start investing in CVS which has no interest in curbing alcoholism and diabetes. If these are your Senators, it would be appropriate to ask them to cease their attacks on Walgreen's limiting our choices. www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-biz-lawmakers-ask-walgreens-to-stop-selling-tobacco-20190214-story.htmlWalgreens has recently been criticized for having the highest raite of failures for selling cigarettes to minors in a recent audit, theyy do have 9, 560 stores in the USA and Puerto Rico, so by virtue of the numbers of stores, I would rather see a per capita type result compared to other retailers...regardless the company policy is clearly stated

YES!!! Thank you Walgreens for having a damn head on your shoulders...taking care of their customers should be first and foremost in their mission...not some BS from people who can't control or educate their children.

taking care of their customers should be first and foremost in their mission My neighborhood 24/7 Walgreens is well stocked with booze, candy, nails and blunts but they never have my meds in stock. Walgreens wouldn't coordinate Rx benefits with our two insurance companies, match prices or search coupons so I chose CVS across town who does with a smile.

I used to buy sugar free candy at CVS..One day I went in to buy some. The price had doubled.I thought it was a mistake. It wasn't. I used to buy Captain Black there before they stopped selling it.These days I almost never go there.

Dave, Your insurance needs to step up to the plate...my wife has all hers delivered to the front door, and each one is only $12.50 for 3 months supply....no need for a corner drug store for anything other than band-aids and aspirin. I get all my stuff from Whetto over at 35th and Van Buren.

Thankfully, those aren't my senators named in the article, and Walgreens is my pharmacy.

Politics & Religion
First, lets get this out of the way... absolutely positively NO politics or religion. This includes imagery, pictures, statements, etc. Sorry, but there are hundreds of forums on the web that offer this type of platform. I have learned first hand that these are conversations that you don't even have with the best of friends. While they may go fine at first, they usually melt into a steaming pile of anger and hurt feelings.
Forum rules. Just saying

Not political from where I am sitting, it is about a retailer supporting smokers.....I think that it is a good thing for smokers to support businesses that support them.

My local Bi-Mart doesn't stock pipe tobacco, but does have Zippo flints and DRG pipe cleaners. I buy some periodically, so they will keep them in stock.

I get the caution, but I think that, as it stands at the minute, we're OK... For now.

Transferring my prescriptions from CVS to Walgreens was the biggest night mare I have ever encountered. I went without insulin for 8 days because of them. I was lucky my doc had some on hand and gave me two pens. Complaining to customer service does no good it just makes a giant loop back to the store manager. I had already complained to both store managers and wanted the district manager. My insurance no longer covers CVS from what I understand Walgreens is no longer covered by some insurance companies. I refuse to even go in the store and send my better half and I refuse to purchase anything other than my prescriptions from them as I am forced to do that. Remember when our government broke up Standard Oil they need to take a hard look at monopolies again. Oh sure we don't sell tobacco just legal poison that comes from a 3rd world shiiiit hole that we call generic prescriptions. Cancer causing Losartan anyone. Rant over.

Walgreen has my blood pressure prescription on file, and I can get it re-filled anywhere in the US. They text me when it's 2 or 3 days short of due, and have it filled and waiting for me when I go in. However, it's not an insurance issue, I pay for it myself. Insurance companies, lawyers and social media rule and ruin the planet now.

I have to take a certain pill every day - Walgreens, CVS and the local grocery stores sell the generic for a dollar apiece, thirty dollars for a 30-pill bottle. I can go to amazon.com and buy un-expired Sam's Club generics at 400 tablets for under twenty bucks, with shipping. That is, not 400 bucks plus tax: $17.95 with free shipping.

Ahhhh CVS, the destroyer of the Amazon rain forest. I dropped them for Walgreens because they kept screwing up. Had my rewards account all messed up. Not to mention the 26' receipt I have to try and roll up.

I use CVS. Switched over from Rite-Aid when they closed the local Rite-Aid store. They always have my prescription and alert me in advance when it's due without me calling. I like them. Insurance covers it so I don't pay any attention to price. And to be honest I don't care whether they sell cigarettes or not as I don't smoke those things. I smoke pipe tobacco and the stuff I like you wouldn't finds in a drug store anyway. I'm sorry if I'm offending the cigarette smokers here, but I will continue using CVS.

I don’t smoke cigarettes, nor am I offended by anyone that continues to shop at CVS. Can’t figure why a cigarette smoke would be either.

Well I smoke cigarettes and have no fear you can get them everywhere were gas is sold. Really I wish all tobacco users good luck while we can still get it.

Sorry, guys. Just standing up for a pharmacy I like. I'm not particularly concerned whether a pharmacy sells cigarettes (pro or con, it's their choice after all) as I am that the government is just taxing the blazes out of tobacco. That does bother me. And in fact, I do not like the fact that government puts such a huge burden of taxation on cigarette smokers. It is after all, their choice to smoke. It's singling out a small group for punitive taxes. Not fair.

I have my prescriptions filled at Walgreens after leaving CVS and it has nothing to do with tobacco products. My local CVS would have me return to pick my stuff up in an hour and I'd wait two and they were never ready and they were charging me way more than Walgreens was on my cholesterol medication. A 30 day at CVS cost the same as a 90 day at Walgreens. CVS's attitude was if I didn't like it then go somewhere else and I did.

When CVS stopped selling tobacco it ticked me off, but when they stopped carrying shooting magazines, never been back. Not political, just don't like censorship. But..it is their business & they are entitled to run it anyway they want. Their right. Always used an independent for the last 35 years in NC & they were the best but here in FL been using Walgreens. People are wonderful but time will tell.

What tobacco products were you hoping to buy in a drug store, exactly?
Walgreens and CVS discontinued pipe tobacco supplies many years ago. I found a cob pipe in a rite-aid in 2017, and they said it was the last one they had, dated 2009 in their system. Walgreens and CVS gave up that ghost even earlier, I believe.
As long as they keep carrying lighter fluid, flints, and bics, well, that's about all I'm likely to buy from these folks in any case.

They're gonna make choices based on the bottom line. I'm gonna guess that shooting magazines sell a lot better in sporting goods shops than a suburban CVS!
There ain't a political cadre whispering in CVS management's ear. They just want to make a buck, as quick as possible, and turn it over for shareholders.

In my neck of the woods CVS sold tobacco products up until 2014, which was five years after the ACA.
Not that it mattered -- you weren't gonna find a pouch of Carter Hall or a nice 3-pack of Garcia y Vega at CVS in 2014. By then it was all "blunt wraps" and three hundred kinds of $2 cigarette.
They still sell lighters and so on, just not the tobacco itself. I bought lighter fluid and flints in a Philadelphia CVS location literally last month.

They sell nothing smoking related around here... plenty of sugary snacks for juvenile diabetics, and alcohol for alcoholics... but they are a “healthcare organization” ... heard the CEO say it myself....

If that's how they think they can make a buck, who am I to tell them otherwise?

I just went through the same thing with my local Walgreens. Needed a prescription refilled and it took two weeks of daily "It's on order and should be in tomorrow." excuses before one of the store managers drove to another Walgreens 35 miles away to pick up the medication for me. And you have to walk down one of the two candy aisles and past the beer and soft drinks to even get to the pharmacy part...
