Very nice work...was that rim damaged or was it scalloped?

Very nice work...was that rim damaged or was it scalloped? Thankyou! Hahaha both! It is a scalloped top but has been damaged by beating on ashtrays and whatever else the previous owner dumped ashes in. Instead of trying to add more briar to the back side of the rim I smoothed over the largest part of damage and re shaped the hill so now it looks like the factory could have scalloped it that way.

The Grabow was indeed scalloped that way in the factory...and you don't see many of those today. I was fortunate enough to find one a few years back. Those were done in the 40's, prior to the 'newer' Grabow models were introduced (Starfire, Westbrook, various Dukes, etc). Nice pipes, oldbriarpipes !

WOW, well done restorations!! I especially like that scalloped Grabow, like Joe stated you donโt see them around much. Thatโs definitely a keeper you should enjoy. Thanks for sharing, look forward to seeing future restorations ๐๐๐

I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for more of the scalloped tops and the Commodore lines. I really enjoy smoking old Grabows and Linkmans they are always solid burners!
