Watching the 1945 version of Bernard Shaw's historical play," Caesar and Cleopatra". Claude Rains as a middle aged Caesar and Vivian Leigh playing the youthful and playful Cleo. He is teaching her to rule and how live as a Queen while enjoying her company. Tough being Caesar, you know. There is a civil war in Rome and territories. Take diversions where one can.

Read an interesting book recently, by Lucy Hughes-Hallett, called Cleopatra: Histories, Dreams and Distortions. It's part biography, but the really interesting stuff is how her story and her image have been changed and adapted over time. As have standards of beauty. Some of the Roman coins with her image on them don't really depict the raving beauty we might expect.

Pretty sure you are right...people romanticize about the Renaissance period...fact of the matter is, it was nasty times to live. Kick it back to Egypt, I imagine anything that looked healthier than a camel was pretty attractive. But...Hollywood has kicked out some beauties over the years that seems pretty favorable to what is historically accurate.

I know that movie [very good] ... Surely artistic liberties were employed . ha-ha Almost all films I watch are from 30's - 40's [some 50's] ... I also love silent films .
