I love to sit by an outdoor fire with a glass of wine, a martini, or a good craft beer, good company, and smoke a cigar or lately a pipe.
Quiet conversation, no worldly troubles, stare into the fire, and enjoy what I am smoking.
What is your favorite?

Mine is either in the back garden with my wife, or in a beer garden with friends. Both are great in different ways.
Sometimes, I just like being by myself too - I like the contemplative nature of the pipe-smoking process.

Walt's little shop or front porch.
By a fire with a cup of coffee.
In my back yard with my dog, listening to nature and enjoying the peace.

On the porch late afternoon, watching Buddy play with his strap under the pine tree, sometimes watching the tractors like yesterday work in the field till almost dark. It’s the world slowing down for me,

It use to be while relaxing and fishing at my favorite lake or any time I went camping. I was an outdoors type of guy. Now my highlight is sitting on the back deck, listen to the stream and all the sounds of Mother Nature. Last week I was feeding a baby raccoon for a couple of days, haven’t seen him since last Friday. Guess his Mom finally realized she was one short.....lol. I’d much rather think good thoughts rather than it was one of the huge Eagles nesting nearby.

On the first hole of the nearby golf course. Or on the second hole. Or the third. Well, the fourth is good, too. And on 5 I am usually reloading. Six is great, and seven......
In the car, be it a five minute trip or five hours.
Sitting outside the back door in the sunshine.

I have 5. In my shop, while working on pipes. It doesn't give me the opportunity to concentrate on what I'm smoking, but having the pipe lit and puffing away gets me in the zone. At McWiggins house for pipe night. We usually smoke blends we've picked out, and talk about them, and everything else under the sun. Taking a walk down our side road with my kids. Mowing the lawn with a big cob filled with Sutliff Aromatic English. At the lake in NH, during our summer vacation. Sometimes I go out on the dock with an Adirondack chair at night, and look at the stars.

They were good times a few years ago when I did that. I hope to do it again some time in the next few years, if we can afford it.

My favorite smoking scenario is having absolutely nothing to do and lots of time to do it... almost never happens...

Back patio, warm, clear, late afternoon into evening, only a gentle breeze, a bit of the Laphroaig, a few well packed pipes and some serious contemplative pipe smoking. Friends are invited but optional; I'm as good alone with my thoughts as with light conversation. I wish my dogs would join me but they seem to be in the anti-smoking crowd.

Times have changed. When I was younger it used to be after a particularly enthusiastically acrobatic lay. Now it's when I take an evening stroll through the neighborhood or the village.

Sitting with Josh either in the shop/shed or on the porch if it is cool enough. We both enjoy sitting...not necessarily talking as enjoying the fact that we are relaxing together and having a good smoke. Next would be to be able to sit with AJ in his home having a smoke and chatting. Lastly, but not as a last resort, sitting on the porch up in the mountains/hills of Kentucky...watching the bears and other wildlife. Always enjoy the company of our little dog, but she is not one for the porch that much, and I don't smoke in the house ever (wife has allergies).

Smoking with friends. Cramptholomew will come over where I setup a smoking area for us and we smoke, talk about our smoke and everything in and out of this world. Another friend of ours joins us as well. He doesnt smoke but is good company. Most of my smoking time is alone and its nice for what it is. I'm able to read or watch a movie or television show. At times, I've got meat smoking too. Its a good time to be alone with my thoughts or get lost in a good story. A bonfire is always a pleasure. Usually my wife and I will have a small fire if the weather is good and the time is free. We will roast some hot dogs and just sit back and enjoy the fire. Bonus part for me is having a good pipe. And lastly, while fishing. While I always love to catch something because it also puts food on my table, even if I catch nothing it's always a great time just being out and enjoying the quiet time. Like having a bonfire, the bonus part for me is having a pipe as well.

I have two favorite smoking scenarios (practical vs theoretical): - In my shop with a cup of coffee while I watch a movie or read and listen to music, and
- In the corner of my back yard under the trees with my faithful retriever.

...hanging out with all of you... wish it could be in person... A nice sentiment, Martin. Now that the last dust up has passed, I wish a couple of regulars would return. I am also missing our International contingent, the majority of whom have fallen away.

If I'm not sitting by the campfire, sitting on my front porch in a rocking chair with a pipe filled with my favorite Va/Per, a morning cup of coffee on a fine spring or early summer, or autumn morning is the way to start out the day. It's a good way to finish the day, too.

1. I love sitting out on my screened in deck smoking a pipe, either early in the morning with a cup of coffee, or in the evening with a good alcoholic beverage. I spent 15 years in a condo, where the only place to smoke was on the front stoop, which afforded no privacy, as the neighbors loved to congregate out there. Having a town home with a screened in deck and total privacy had been a god send, and I never take it for granted!
2. Love smoking a pipe around a fire while camping. I have been doing a backpack style camp trip with friends for 20 years now to a remote primitive camp site in Pennsylvania. It is in the middle of nowhere right on a creek bed, complete with 2 waterfalls. Had one of the best pipe experiences of my life about 8 years ago back there smoking some HH Vintage Syrian in a Ardor Giant, paired with JW Lees Harvest Ale (aged in port barrels). The tobacco and beer complimented each other so perfectly you couldn’t tell which source the flavor profile was coming from. I still think about it to this day! I also love waking up there in the morning and making some coffee in the French press and then sitting on a rock on top of the waterfall and smoking a pipe.
3. Pipe club! It’s the only time each month that I typically have face to face interaction with other pipe smokers, and there’s nothing like having a bowl with like minded folks!

I’m in the outside, watching and listening to nature club. Seems to be a common thing for us pipers! I could very easily see myself enjoying a pipe while fishing, though I haven’t been fishing in too long.
I do really enjoy the quiet, early morning smokes. Allows for some great contemplative smoking! Walks are cool too, although I don’t seem to enjoy my smoke as much.

I'm retired, so anywhere I can enjoy a bowl is good for me. In the house, in the yard, in my pickup, by a lake or river fishing, etc.
