When I watch a movie, I am only looking to be entertained for a couple of hours. if it's an educational movie, then it still needs to hold my attention. Since I am not going to read and compare 5 different biographies of Babe Ruth, it's close enough for my purposes. I guess what makes the difference for me is this, if I am going to watch a total nonsense comedy like Spaceballs or Airplane I feel the same way. However, when a movie is critically acclaimed and is based on historical accuracy and the director is too ignorant and too stupid to come anywhere near true accuracy it tells me the movie isn't worth watching

However, when a movie is critically acclaimed and is based on historical accuracy and the director is too ignorant and too stupid to come anywhere near true accuracy it tells me the movie isn't worth watching I suppose that if the movie is about something that I am knowledgeable about I would be more concerned. Shows like Scorpion that claimed to be based on a real scientific genius but ignored the most basic laws of physics drive me crazy. Unrealistic firearm usage is also one of my pet peeves. In space flicks, the story quality affects my suspension of disbelief. I have no vested interest in baseball history, so the Babe Ruth Story is equal to Field of Dreams and A League of Their Own. Every portrayal of the gunfight at the OK Corral is way off, beginning with the location. Don't care.

Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space is generally regarded as the worst movie ever made. It's so bad that I bought the DVD. It was also Bela Lugosi's last movie. In fact, he died midway through the filming so Ed Wood donned the cape Bela wore in the movie and just walked around with the cape hiding his face. So bad it's delicious. www.imdb.com/title/tt0052077/

Maybe I should have titled the thread "Worst movie to ever be considered a good movie" There are a million "worst ever" movies in the "B" movie category but movies like "Deer Hunter" and "The Revenant" which were considered by many as "Great" movies but are actually utterly stupid are the ones I hate.
Let's make a movie about the history of the catholic Church and how it originated in Japan.
Or a movie about the importance of space travel and show the first moon landing in a Cessna 170.
Or a movie about Dr. Martin Luther King, played by Woody Harrelson.
Or a movie about the trans-continental railroad and how the last spike was driven in 1995 in Spokane Washington.
Or a movie about the Wright brothers who invented the automobile in Muncie Indiana.

Worst movie to ever be considered a good movie is, once again, Interiors.

...they're just movies... it doesn't have to be "great cinema" for me to enjoy it... also, just because everyone else liked it doesn't mean I will... "The English Patient" comes to mind... most people I talked to loved it, yet I thought it was boring as hell...

That is when I told her the bottom line is there must be an airplane, a ship, or a train to hold my attention.

Definitely BarBarella Second.......Waterworld I agree and will add Mad Max and Road Warrior to this list. No way. Even Hanoi Jane looked hot in that particular movie. I give you the WORST movie ever made (and I like Daniel Day Lewis a lot) Last of the Mohicans Hanoi Jane was drop dead gorgeous in all of her early movies (Barbarella, Barefoot in the Park, Cat Ballou, etc), but Barbarella is a painfully terrible movie. Last of the Mohicans is another bad one. "I will find you!", ugh, please don't.

Have to a tie between Willow and Dune. Willow might edge it out. Dune has some of the worst acting and disjointed scripts. A real abomination to the book

I read the book and enjoyed the movie, but they are different things.

People seem to either like it or hate it. I like it.

I see, Aquaman, the Rocks little brother, the female star of Zardoz, and a director of crap Canadian films. I am sure that he will do a better job than David Lynch. Actually he probably will, but I don't have much hope. Actually looking forward to Mentats of Dune. "It is by will alone that I set my mind in motion". 😎😉🤠

Waterworld ...... well, any Costner movie ..... or Tom Cruise movie for that matter.
Both of them must've gone down to that crossroad where one gets to sell ones soul to the Dark Lord. It's the only logical explanation as to how they get work.
A hugely expensive flop like Waterworld would have spelled the end for any other actor.

That is when I told her the bottom line is there must be an airplane, a ship, or a train to hold my attention. Was that the final straw that made her your ex? Understandable. There is no way in Hell that I'd torture myself by watching a chic-flick. Nuh-uh, no way no how. Just as I wouldn't expect a girlfriend to watch a martial arts movie. (Unless off course she was into martial arts) If a gf wanted to watch a particular boring movie, that's when I'd encourage her to have a girls night out. I'd even play chauffeur & drive her & her friends to & from if they were making a night of it & having a few drinks. Talk about earning brownie points. Every single time they'd report back how their girlfriends would say how lucky my girl was to have such a thoughtful, considerate guy like me. Yep, that's me to a tee. Hehehe. The 'rewards' afterwards made it all worth while.

It's definitely an issue of personal taste. I remember sitting in the theater watching "The Big Lebowski." My friend and I were laughing constantly... the rest of the packed movie theater was dead silent.
As for bad movies - no votes for "Howard the Duck"?

Released in 1986 (per IMDB, my memory ain't that good), or I'm missing something?
