I have two large pipe racks for my regular rotation. Three other pipe racks are holding 30 plus pipes that will eventually go back into use. A few years back I stopped at a second hand shop and purchased a decent sized glass cabinet wall unit. I made 6 shelves that properly holds 48 more pipes. I still have a number of pipes packed away in their pipe socks stashed in 3 Rubbermaid containers. Also have a safe where I store my more expensive pipes, I lost count on those.
Only pipes I’ve purchased recently were those estate pipes I get a good price through eBay. I enjoy the restoration part immensely. 👌👍👍

I'd love to display my pipes but I've nowhere to display them... So they sit in a drawer. How sad.

I've got 2 6 Ft. bookcases that I have my regular rotation of tobacco and pipes on. I've got a small house/home so all my crap sits in one small area. I've been giving some of my pipes to Josh...he is a really good friend and considerably younger than I am. Something happens to me, I want my pipes to live on with someone who appreciates them for the great smokers they are. I gave most of my old Comoy pipes to AJ, as he is a brother to me. Looking forward to meeting Ted...he can be a brother too, as Josh and AJ are.

I walk around with them sticking out of my mouth!
Seriously, though, they're all over the place. I have a nice 7 pipe stand for my little 'baccy hutch, and my nicer pipes go there - when I'm not using them. The rest are either in my pipe tote, on various counters, or in the garage half covered in briar dust. I like a little briar with my red Virginia.

I keep them in pipe racks sitting either in front of me or on a shelf in the 2 bookcases sitting right next to where I have my laptop. I keep them all in sight, because at my age...if it isn't in front of me, I'll forget all about it.

It's not much, but it's what I have. The humidor was a gift from my children. I keep bulk bags in it.

Years ago, my son for Father's Day gifted me a 2 Cousins, underneath is a full of pipes hutch. A Remington Nylon 66 - possibly the 3rd best .22LR rifle. It would be first if not for the Ruger 10/22 and Marlin 39A. As for the original question, I display them proudly over the oven in a closed cabinet, in pipe socks, piled atop one another with the exception of a few boxes and a 6 pipe pipe rack.

Padded mats on closet shelves. Pets don't destroy them there and no excessive light to oxidize stems.

In a few racks, a couple of bowls, and on the counter of the utility room, which gets no natural light. Stems stay nice longer.

I have racks, but they find themselves in a jumble on the tobacco cabinet....the lazy bum that I am.

Well, I suppose I'm the odd man out. The only pipes I keep out are those that are in current rotation. The rest are put away in fitted cases, anywhere from 15 to 21 per case, or their original case. While the majority of my "collection" are workhorses and beaters, I have a number of fine vintage pieces going back to the 1880's and leaving these out in the light and air is not good for them. It's really not good for pipes in general. I remember visiting John Fabris a few years ago, a legendary collector who had assembled over decades, one of the finest, if not THE finest collection of vintage British pipes to be found anywhere on the face of this planet. He had the rarest pipes there are, all in immaculate condition. But when you entered his home there was not a hint of the treasures he had amassed. Everything was tucked away in cabinets where they could remain in a state of perfect preservation between usage. For 2 hours he showed me an astonishing array of exquisite rarities, producing them like a magician performing feats of legerdemain. And he's not the only collector of high grades who protects his pipes from the effects of oxidation. My late father-in-law had an amazing Dunhill collection, nearly 1,000 pipes from every era of Dunhill's history. He had magnums, ODs, DRs, DRRs, prototypes, quaints, gold and sterling windcaps, not to mention a large collection of gold lighters, Dunhill leather work, humidors, etc, etc. The Dunhill lighters and other Dunhill ephemera were in display cases. His study looked like a Dunhill museum. Except that the pipes were not on display. The only pipes that were out were the seven he had in rotation at any given time. The rest were nested in fitted drawers that he had fashioned in an antique oak hardware store carousel. He would no more have considered putting them out on racks than leaping off the upper observation platform of the Empire State bldg. It's not like I don't know what I have and need to leave it out. Besides, who am I going to impress, myself?

I've been keeping my pipes in a closet, with a couple racks in the kitchen where I normally keep my wallet and keys and so on. The kitchen is south facing so there's an undesirable amount of sunlight, and that makes me nervous.
I'm pretty aggressive about oiling and re-oiling my stems to keep them sun-resistant, but I'd rather have a permanent solution.
My current (tentative) plan is to buy a couple of book-cases with glass doors, then apply UV-protective window films to the inside of the glass surface.
The window films come in pre-cut sheets of various size. They're intended for use on exterior windows, to protect your furniture or what-have-you from the depredations of sunlight. Should work on any smooth surface, so they'll do just fine on lexan surface of a cheap book case.
In a room with northern exposure, I expect 98% or 99% reduction in UV to be plenty.

It's not like I don't know what I have and need to leave it out. Besides, who am I going to impress, myself? I know what I have, the problem is where. I lose things a little more often than the average bear.
I want a central location for my pipes where everything will be visible so I can find an individual pipe quickly.

I have 2 racks that I made, they both hold 7. I have 1 from Walt that holds 6. They're not necessarily "on display" since they're in my bedroom, no one comes in here.

+1 Sable.
Jesse has been saying this for years and made me a believer. I witnessed first hand pipes I had restored, deteriorate in just a few short years from being exposed to light and the smoky air. About two years ago, I bought an 8 drawer cabinet to store most of my pipes. The pipes stashed away still look just as nice when new or freshly restored. I still keep the workhorses on the rack for quick picks.

yes it's a Remington Nylon, Son was in Desert Storm with 82nd Airborne, sent it to Remington for a tune up, told them I wanted to surprise him when he got back as it was his. They redid it No Charge. Mighty fine people.

Some really impressive racks there, guys.
I have a 12 pipe rack a buddy gave me and the rest lounge about on the shelf, resting on pipe socks etc. Not so much a display, rather just their home. I smoke all my pipes regularly.
I do love them for the character they add to the room, but later in life, when I'm a more serious collector, I suspect I'll have my prized pipes tucked away for special occasions.
I'm not too worried about making my pipes last forever. I haven't really got anyone to pass them on to and my generation is likely going to be among the last to smoke pipe tobacco.
