I like McDonalds, because nobody judges you at McDonalds, because everyone there is already eating at McDonalds. Maybe so. I mostly visit Wendy's. McDonald's in Taos is so low quality, I wonder what I am eating.

As for me, I will eat the fries when I take them. I will say for the most part here in N.C. McDonalds are kept spotless. I just don’t care for their beef.

I don't really like McDonalds, but I just got through reading a bunch of McDonalds jokes and that was my favorite. Around here Braums has the best burgers and the best fries. And you can upgrade your Coke to a vanilla shake

So, unless you know a good butcher what’s in your beef you purchase in your local supermarket!!! “ McDonald’s Uses Worm Meat Fillers But Can Legally Call It 100% Beef. Large companies have been the subject of rumors that they substitute unusual or unethical substances in their products, usually to decrease costs. McDonald’s is not immune to such claims. McDonald’s has been accused of using everything from worms to cow eyeballs in its burgers. Dating far back to at least 1978, there have been rumors that McDonald’s restaurants use earthworms in their hamburgers. The fact that McDonald’s uses cow eyeballs and worm fillers does not stop them from legally using the claim that they served 100% beef. McDonald’s has assured its consumers that its product contains 100% beef. They are allowed to do this because McDonald’s buys their “beef” from a company called “100% Beef Company”, making it possible for McDonald’s to call beef byproducts and soy products “100% beef”. McDonald’s then ships the beef to their grinding facility in Oak Brook, Illinois where they then take the ground worm filler and add it to their “100% beef patties”. McDonald’s serves billions of people around the world every year. This allows them to produce a higher profit margin by increasing the amount of patties that can be made, by increasing their product load with the worm filler. The worm filler is ground and packaged in a facility next to McDonald’s corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois. The employees must sign a confidentiality waiver to never discuss the ingredients of the McDonald’s food products or face termination and legal repercussions. However many employees have stepped up over the years with the truth and have created a huge controversy over the quality of food that the company produces. Since 85% of ALL beef products from steaks to burgers to roast are produced by 4 firms here in the US do you really know WHAT the meat dept at your local grocery chain is buying?

In the mid 80’s I remember reading an article that explained how McDonalds was using farm raised mealworms in their burger meat. Yup some are legends, some might even be true. Blew my mind many years ago when a meat plant was raided by the Fed’s and U S Marshals Dept. looking for contraband just what garbage “ scrap meats “ went into the making of a hot dog.

I remember a guy telling me that KFC had genetically mutated chickens with no beaks so that they would not peck on each other in overcrowded pens, and no legs so that they could not move around and lose weight... I think he said they were featherless too. He stated that it was an expose on 60 minutes, I was pretty grossed out, later on I found out that was not the case.

In the mid 80’s I remember reading an article that explained how McDonalds was using farm raised mealworms in their burger meat. Yup some are legends, some might even be true. That was conspiracy theory nonsense, then and now.
If you think mealworms are cheaper than beef, why the heck would any bait shop ever sell you a mealworm? Blew my mind many years ago when a meat plant was raided by the Fed’s and U S Marshals Dept. looking for contraband just what garbage “ scrap meats “ went into the making of a hot dog. Hot Dogs and the like are usually made out of pretty solid quality meats. I mean, sure, it can include lesser cuts that can't be sold as steaks or chops, but by and large, a "beef hot dog" is made of cuts of beef you would ordinarily eat, and a "pork hot dog" is, well, a sausage. There ain't any components in a sausage or a hot dog (frankfurter) that you wouldn't use in home cooking. Even in the mass produced lots. I mean, what did your grandma make sausage out of? was it the best cuts of meat? probably not. Was it assholes and entrails? I hope not! A good sausage is made out of fatty cuts, and lesser cuts. It's ground and pressed to improve texture and allow flavors to marry. That is the nature of the thing. It seems like flake tobacco should teach us some things. Hardly any of us would smoke straight Perique, or straight Black Cavendish, but all of us enjoy blends that have a touch of one or the other.
If you want to be scared of your meat, be scared of "chicken nuggets." That stuff is mechanically separated chicken meat aka "pink slime." I know "chicken nuggets" are basically "pink slime" and I still eat them from time to time. They ain't good for me, but I know what the factory is about. There's no mystery. I am eating the remnant flesh bits clinging to chicken bones. I chose to do this, and, maybe I feel a little bit gross

I remember a few years back I got a call on the phone and it was a survey about "pink slime."
I dont eat McDonalds. Not because of what the food might, or might not, be, but because I dont like it. We have a fast food place that has been here since the 50s, their fries are better than McDs. I can also get a dou le. Cheeseburger, fries and a drink there for under $6. If I'm real hungry I can get a loaded burger with fries and a drink for under $8.
No complaints here, I prefer to eat at home anyway.

I do not buy much ground beef at the market. When I do, it is ground round or ground sirloin. I have checked in with the butchers at the store. They are fairly certain it is all beef without pink slime or other stuff.

I usually buy roast or sirloin on sale and grind my own beef...….I simply do not trust beef ground off premises and am even skeptical of beef ground on premises.I live in West Texas in spitting distance of some of the largest cattle ranches in the world...…….damn shame I can't trust local beef. However it is still possible to buy a live cow from one of the smaller producers and have it butchered locally. When I was a kid we raised our own...….we always picked one out every year for our freezer.
Now on to fast food ………..I'm a sucker for Whataburger, best fast food burger I've had anywhere.

What A Burger sold today to A Chicago Bank DBT there goes the neighborhood. Actually a majority stake was sold to BDT Capitol Partners in Chicago.I tend to read between the lines but my take on this is they want to take Whataburger global. If they leave the quality and menu alone this may be a good thing for people living outside of Texas. Now I'll go ahead and say it.....any changes made to Texas Whataburgers would be suicide. What they do in other states I could care less. This reminds me of Dairy Queen...…..there are Texas DQ's and all those others. The menu is different once you cross the state line.Almost all DQ's in Texas are owned by one family...…..quality is good,IMHO second only to Whataburger.Outside the state I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for anything on their menu, especially those nasty azz burgers. The exception is their ice cream, they all have good quality frozen treats. If I sound a little particular...….well I am a Texan

Im with you. Love eating out when I'm at one of the camps or visiting my brother in his small town. Those good old greasy spoon joints where you can get a decent burger with fries, beverage, and tip And you still see change from a ten.
Makes sense though when you consider the higher overhead businesses have to pay in the city. Also, plenty of yuppies in Pittsburgh, so why not make a fancy burger and get some of that yuppy cash for yourself! Haha

Wasn't it the famous quote from Ray Kroc , founder of McDonalds who said, " we are not in the burger business, we are in the real estate business."
I keep reading that Burger King is supposedly rumored to be on its way out.

I take it your burger was purchased at the hospital where you work? The BEST coffee roll is made by a baker at Wake Med Hospital on New Bern in Raleigh 👌👍👍. Yup, if I want the best I make a stop at the hospitals bakery.......lol. Go figure
Yes it was … not always the best but decent enough and priced right!
Back in the day, many hospital cafeterias were managed by Marriot. However, I feel they do better on their own as your baker at Wake Med has shown.
Mercy/ Gilbert has great food/ great prices.... I have been known to stop by with no deliveries. I agree, great when they have an institutionalized food service divorce... quality goes up, prices go down.

Marty a Burger King near me rarely has any cars in the parking lot. I like their fish sandwich several times we have stopped in and they had no fish. I can understand that but when they say they have no chicken it makes you go hmmmm.

It's interesting reading this thread as I had the mistaken impression that most Americans would consider a Big Mac as a typical burger.
When I ate dead animals, I'd always go to the take-away shop that cooked proper hamburgers, with lettuce, tomato, beetroot, cheese, an egg & tomato sauce. It wasn't a good burger unless juice ran down your arm [well, in actual fact I'd wrap the burger in the packaging to avoid that] Now I buy a burger with the above ingredients minus the meat.

I was based in Houston for 15 years, traveled all over Texas, never noticed a difference in DQ but I'm not sure I ever actually ate at one there. I'm curious now, next time I get down that way. Ate the hell out of some Whataburger though. I'd often get into Corpus Christie around midnight and one of the only things open was the flagship Whataburger... 2 stories, on the water. Good stuff.

DQ and What a Burger are independent franchises. While WTB is consistent DQ is not I only eat DQ in small towns. Now here is kicker the heiress of WTB married the largest distributer of propane in the south yet somehow they manage to scrap by.

In n Out burger, $2-4, depending whether its a double double or not. Black Angus $12-14 for a burger. And yes, you can really taste the difference. In n Out is the best fast for burger around, I think. I'd still prefer the Black Angus with the great steak fries. Patties are huge, quality meat and cooked to spec. Absolutely delicious. Doesn't mean I won't eat In n Out. I do.

Whataburger always delivers for me... the lettuce and tomatoes are always fresh, and they use great quality beef cooked to perfection.
I like In-N-Out also... it seems most complain about their fries but I like them.
