Another bowl of Carter Hall in the same bamboo shank pipe👍 It’s going to be a great smoker!!! A mate who I introduced to a pipe several months ago [He was cig free for a while but still craving. A small bowl at night scratches the itch] brings his pipe when he drops in so I can fill his bowl with different blends as he's still learning his preferences re; leaf types. Last Friday I introduced him to Carter Hall. He rather liked it. When he asked 'what is it?' I said 'That's what I call a Burley mix that's been done right.' Initially I bought it as an economical blender but prefer to smoke it as is. I'm pleased to say that I've got 5 x 1.5oz boxes cellared. [Customs had it. Sent me a duty invoice. Then released it unpaid. Bless them. One of lifes little mysteries, lol)

Match Holiday Mix in a rusticated shop pipe. Love that blend. It is a nice blend but I often pick up an earthy taste that tastes like dirt. A touch too much Burley for my tastes. Nothing goes to waste here so I mixed a few bowls worth with Sutliff 310 Modern English, another really nice blend but it tends to bite. The resulting mix was so good that I mixed around 14oz of each 50/50. No more dirt, no more bite. It's now one of my 'go to' blends.

elric..........Did you notice that the bent Bamboo from same seller went for $15.50 today? I had the first bid on it but since she ripped me off, I didn't counter bid. Too bad for her, I would've gone to $31.75 on that one, lol. Nope, I didn’t notice. Since I feel she should have worked with you on the shipping cost, especially charging you $5.00 for each other pipes you won I will no longer watch what she sells. Not even if I can get it cheap!!! I need another pipe like a hole in my head, that will eliminate my PAD disease. The seller should have explained the first 3 you won were sent to cheap and a mistake on “ her “ part and released you from purchasing the next 3 due to high shipping cost to OZ. I own 10 of their pipes, only one needed the draft hole opened and is now a great smoker and no more whistle. Hope all 6 of yours are good to great smokers for you, they break in fairly easy👍👍👍. Keep me posted once you try a few. Looking forward to pictures!!! Adios Annabelle.....I’m done due to your poor customer service with another member of the Patch.

I am a fan of the earthy notes in burley myself. Especially in ABF.

Thank you Ted, that's exactly how I feel also. I've also got so many pipes that more are superfluous to my needs. So many of my new pipes are earmarked for future gifting so it's her loss.

My favorite blend is Butera Matured ribbons. Its good fresh but age it for a few years and it’s great. I liked all their blends but I’m always looking for the ribbons or stoved flakes. .It’s not made any more since McClelland shut their doors so I’m going to have to find something else to start curing. I finished up some MB HH Old Dark fired Kentucky and even fresh wet out of tin it burns really good for wet tobacco and it’s smooth and cool burning.I was surprised how cool and good it burnt for such fresh out of the tin pressed flakes. Some other good ones fresh out of tin was Mississippi River and Plum Pudding. For such damp tobacco it burnt cool and smoked all the way down. I haven’t decided on my favorite pipe, depends on blend I’m smoking, but my James Upshall Tilshead is what I reach for when I smoke my favorite Virginia blends.

elric ........just concentrate on purchasing the tobacco’s you enjoy....accomplish this now and you’ll be set👍👍👍 Yep. Pipes aren't worth much with no tobacco. My pound of Black Cavendish has landed in Sydney ....... fingers crossed. I'd have to do a proper count but at a rough estimate I've got close to 40 pound cellared.

Solani ABF date on tin 6/2008 Pipe of choice: Kirsten Pipe W/Bent System & Don Warren Tulip Bowl👍👍 Very nice Kirsten. Question on the 'Aged Burley'. I've read the opinion several times that Burley doesn't improve much with age. The Solani Aged Burley [as well as suggestions that stoving Burley will bring good results] would say that that's no correct. How much does Burley improve with aging?

Haven't tried any of those blends except for SPC PP & MR. Both great blends but I find that I have to dry them a little first.

The Solani Aged Burley [as well as suggestions that stoving Burley will bring good results] would say that that's no correct. How much does Burley improve with aging? Virginia’s age with 4 to 8 years well......even longer . For me the minimum is 4 years. Now let’s get to your Burley question: at least 8 to 12 years of aging works well with Burley blends with no heavy toppings!!! I have a number of different jarred Burley tobacco’s with 25 plus years of age, the smoke outstanding 👌👍👍 Aromatics can lose much of their flavor toppings in less than 4 years, but won’t bite as much👌👍👍. Some say don’t age Latakia longer than 5 years. I have some with 10 years of aging that smokes extremely smooth and woodsy.......loses some of that leathery taste which is fine with me. Every pipe smoker will have their own personal preference. YMMV

Good morning Patchers. My first pipe of the month was Josh’s RD mix in a no name Dublin with a plateau rim and vulcanite stem.
I just set fire to a bowl of Hearth and Home Viprati in a Savinelli Oscar prince with a repair band and lucite stem. I had been cellaring this for two years. I couldn’t wait any longer.
