I was on the show as a kid and gargled water to the tune "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" ... think it got gonged near the end. Lol The diverse talents of our esteemed members here can not be surpassed. Darin you win.

One of my earliest childhood memories was ‘watching’ The Gong Show and ‘Bowling For Dollars’. That’s all I remember.

Really, I thought he was doing time. My mistake. It seems like he should have, for that show if nothing else. He did apply to the CIA, and later said the book was a fantasy about what he thought his life would have been like if he had been accepted. He was probably way off base about what working for the CIA is really like. I'm sure it's a suck job. Most of the work by staff people in the CIA involves reading. They read newspapers, letters, books, magazines, TV show transcript, diaries, reports, emails, websites. Then they listen. They listen to TV programs, radio shows, non-commercial radio transmissions, telephone conversations, conversations on recording media that no one speaking knew would be recorded. They think. They form opinions. They participate in meetings and discussions. They write reports. Those materials are then up-streamed to bigger brains at higher pay grades. Eventually, someone says something obscure to someone else which has a meaning only they and a few others understand such as the word "Rosebud". Then there are others working for the CIA, and there are not so many as there once were, who travel to beautiful and not so beautiful foreign locations. There was a time when they claimed to be employed by the US Agency for international Development. That cover became so oft repeated it was a joke. So, they started masking their identities with other seemingly innocuous jobs and professions; student, tourist, medical researcher. They, too, collect information. Then there are some employees who probably do things we do not know about or want to know about.
