I just watched trailer for cats and I was blown away! The technology is awesome. The costumes are texture mapped onto the actors and live action is seamlessly blended with CG. This isn't a show that I ever thought I would want to see, but I can't wait for it to come out.

Years ago wife and I saw Cats at the Sanger Theater in New Orleans, wife was awe struck, me I liked the costumes and the drinks you could buy during the intermission, even got a chuckle at some Society Dame wanting me to get out of her seat, she was reading the seat ticket wrong, wife was tugging at my arm as the (Lady) was not so nice, I was,

This movie looks to be on another level from the stage play. And a lot of theaters are serving cocktails and food these days.

I will pass on this one.
Saw the play in New York back in the middle 1980s. 90 minutes of misery. I so prefer ALW's other musicals, you know, about corrupt South American Dictators, Biblical stories including The Nazarine, Opera House terrorists.

I've never seen cats or been interested in it but you've pricked my curiosity, Ron. I must check out the trailer.

Thanks. I learned a lot about UwU and nyan. I am surprised by the hate, but it is the internet where it's not ok to like anything.

The Cats soundtrack is much better than watching the play itself. I have two versions one with Betty Buckley and one with Sara Brightman. Buckley is doing Hello Dolly in Fort Worth. Of course her Tony award is for Cats in 1983.

I find the trailer disturbing and unpleasant.
Cats the book of poetry with original illustration is a rollicking good time.
Cats the musical is ... tolerable.
I'm not looking forward to Cats the film.

I just watched the trailer. I’m not sure what I think. I enjoyed the musical when it was on Broadway.

I'm gonna pass on this one. I don't care much about real cats in real life, don't care anything about Broadway musicals about cats, and so turning it into a movie isn't gonna make things any more attractive. I saw the trailer, and to me it looked horrendous.
It's just a matter of taste, and it's not not my taste.

I really had no idea what it's about. This is the first time I've heard anyone talk about the plot. I think I understand now why the MSM wouldn't mention it.

Eliot himself was a Unitarian who converted to CoE for the sake of "Englishness," so I wouldn't put too much stock in this essay if I were you.
The "Cats" poems are literally about the psychology of cats. I'm not kidding at all. They are, as much as anything, didactic works for children to understand their house pets better.

Along with most all other critters, I love cats and everything about their behaviors. This does not mean I want to site through that Musical again.

As a fellow well familiar with the source material (it was a cherished book as a kid), I think the author is dipping in a dry hole. There's no Christian subtext in "Cats." It's too simple and whimsical for that.

Yeah the whole idea of Old Deuteronomy deciding the Jellicle Choice of which cat gets to be reborn and Journey to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn has nothing at all to do with Christian beliefs.
