hey just started smoking a pipe a week ago and loving it. started off with a packet of borkum riff cherry cavendish from the tobacconist and a pipe that i'd had laying around for years that i got off ebay for like $30. Now I've got a Peterson Fermoy 69 and just as i am writing this will have my first smoke from it shortly (would've been sooner but I have had a cold)... still on the cherry cavendish but 1Q has been recommended to me so I might try that next. Anyway happy to have joined this forum and have started visiting the chatroom already P.S. forgot to mention I am from Queensland Australia

You really don't want to burn that Borkum Riff in the new Pete. Do you have Captain Black of Sir Walter Raleigh down there? Maybe check in with Elric who's toilet also flushes in reverse and has great taste in 'baccy. And welcome to the Patch from Humble Texas. Edit :the center of the world)

oh what would be bad about burning borkum riff in my new pipe? Borkum Riff CHERRY! 😨💩 You will soon learn that there are many much better tobaccos out there, even much better cherry blends. It won't permanently hurt your pipe, but you will have the cherry taste overlaying your next 20 on so bowls of decent tobacco. BR is kind of the lowest common denominator of tobaccos. I started with a pack of it years ago, but I never finished it.

Welcome to the patch. elric is another Australian on the Patch. It's sucks that the tobacco prices are so extreme where you live. I'm in the UK and it's bad enough here. Anyway, enjoy your journey and your time on the patch.

Welcome from central north Florida...the original land of confusion (hanging chads and all). You gonna like it here as long as you don't bring up politics, religion or any other crap to inflame the masses (here).

Welcome to the Patch from S.W. Kansas, USA. Don't let anyone convince you that what you like to smoke isn't any good. Smoke what you like and like what you smoke! That goes for pipes as well as tobacco. Have fun.

Anyway happy to have joined this forum and have started visiting the chatroom already P.S. forgot to mention I am from Queensland Australia G'day Joff. Welcome. Tobacco prices here are nothing but contemptuous. Thanks to the ludicrous plain packaging [and disgusting pics] many blenders threw in the towel & no longer sell here so our choice in blends went from limited to bugger-all. Are you able to source 1Q in Brisbane? The only blends available to me locally are a couple of Amphora & a few Borkum Riff blends, Dr Pat Irish mixture & Erinmore Mixture. That's it, although one could probably find a couple more blends in city tobacconists. Most new pipe smokers start with sweet aromatics but then venture into semi-aro's and non-aro's like VaPers [Virginia + Perique] straight Virginias, Burley blends and English/American/crossover blends [Mixtures that contain Latakia] but they're just not available here. Last year I discovered the wonderful world of on-line tobacconists. The range of blends is eye-opening. One pound of tobacco ordered from the U.S., including postage, works out cheaper than buying 50 grams here. The law re; the 'Importation of commercial quantity of tobacco without a license' changed on July 1st. Forewarned, I spent every spare dollar building my cellar & now have a healthy stash. I'm still not sure how the new laws affect amounts one pound or under for personal use. I've received a pound since & a 4oz tin of Mississippi River bought from a fellow Patcher just arrived without any problem. Not sure why but bulk pound bags pass through Customs much easier than tinned tobacco. Now that I'm no longer buying tobacco locally, I'm saving a small fortune. Send me a PM if you'd like to know how to go about ordering tobacco from the U.S.

Welcome to the patch.
Borkum Cherry?! My tongue hurt just reading that. Haha. If you dig cherry blends, id recommend Cult Blood Red Moon or John Henry.
Glad to have you.
