Hey everyone, used to smoke a pipe when I was younger, after 34 years I've taken it back up again much to the consternation of my wife. I can't get over all the different varieties available nowadays and am having fun sampling and figuring out what I like after so long of a hiatus.

Welcome to the patch.
I wish I could transport myself back in time to all the great pipe shops in the greater NYC area... sure had some great ones.

Welcome to the Patch. My pipe smoking journey and yours are quite similar; a 30+ year hiatus and return to a whole new world of tobacco choices and availability via the interwebs. I’ve been back at it for a year and am still pursuing my favorite smoke. One word of warning, we are all first class enablers around here! Pipe acquisition and tobacco acquisition disorders run rampant with many of us. My best advice is to proceed with caution and enjoy the adventure! (Says the guy who went from one 8oz tin of SPC Potlatch to 60 lbs of tobacco cellared away in a year. We won’t even talk about the pipes.). Have fun!

Your seniority status is still secure. I was born in 1965. I first smoked a pipe back when I was 18-20 years old.

Welcome, from New York City!
I lived in Long Island proper for a couple years, and moved into the five boroughs for work reasons.
There are at least two pipe clubs that meet in Nassau county, one in Brooklyn that attracts a few Long Islanders, and a big one that meets in Manhattan with many Long Island members.
If you have any interest in meeting other pipe-smokers, you're in the right geography!

Hello from Ireland. I hope you have fun here. My wife isn't a fan of the pipe either. She thinks it will put me in an early grave.
I tell her, 'when you think of a pipe-smoker, what comes into your head?' She replies, 'an old man.' I say, 'exactly - old and not dead.'
Plus, you get more smoke in your lungs from a BBQ than from smoking a pipe.
I know it's not risk-free, but there are so many other things out there that are adversely affecting our health - pollution, food additives, etc. etc.

Welcome! Regarding your wife, see my signature That's a tad extreme. Lol Yes, but think about it. A good pipe will never spend your money without you knowing it. A good pipe, upon degrading a bit can be restored to like new. A good pipe will never let someone else smoke it. A good pipe is just one of many good pipes. And while a good pipe may "talk to you" you alone can choose to listen, or not; and the pipe won't care.
Just kidding! Marriage is a great institution! As long as you don't mind being institutionalized

klowry Welcome to the Patch from Brooklyn, NY. I’m originally from Long Island. I grew up in Jericho and Huntington. I went to Jericho HS - my dad lived in Huntington. I moved to the city in 1996. I worked in Hauppauge from 1997-2007. I drove out and back everyday. Ive also spent some time in the summer out east - Jamesport and East Hampton, although I prefer the north fork. Where are you from ?
