These are some pipes that I have made in the last year. This one of the most recent- this was on track to be a volcano with a military mount when I ruined the stummel with a drilling accident (still not sure what happened). I wound up with a very nicely grained stummel with a short shank. I have just started working with bamboo and was not sure how a bamboo mortise would hold up, so I elected to add a piece of briar with a military mount. I think the shank is a bit too long. Zulu Collared Brandy I am working on making the shank face more presentable tulip I cut two stems for this pipe which was done for the Pipe In The Hat exchange on Pipe Makers Forum DocAitch

Thanks, Don. That last is very reminiscent of the 70s era free hand with a military mortise thrown in. It was exchanged in the PITH 2016 exchange on Pipe Maker's Forum. DocAitch

I have 6 bamboos in the works at this time, will post them when they are done in 1-2 weeks. I also received an invitation from another local pipe maker to sandblast a couple in my queue which have cosmetic issues ( flaws in otherwise beautiful grained stummels). I am looking forward to that, it might light a fire under MRE to get my own sandblast set up going. DocAitch
