I have the same problem with caulk guns. I swear that someone has been coming into my house and stealing my caulk gun. This has been going on for 30 years. Everytime I need to caulk something I have to go to the store and buy one. I just bought one 2 weeks ago and am thinking of putting an electronic tracker on it.

That would bug the life out of me.

They are most likely in that special other dimension with all the single socks.
LL … a caulk gun is what we use to squeeze out the caulking that seals around things like baths, windows, etc.
edit: they can also be used to pack tobacco into a jar very tightly.

Every time I go to Harbor Tool I pick up tape measure, a set of allen wrenches, and one of those 4-bit screwdrivers. I have dozens of each and I still can't find them when I need them.

When my son lived at home it was no mystery...tools always missing and I believe in buying quality...the straw that broke that camels back was when my Super Sawzall, practically new back when they had metal cases....I went looking for it and he admitted that he had used on an ex-girlfriend's brothers car when they built sub woofers for him...he swore he put it back. I blew a gasket over that one and he shortly thereafter he joined the Marine Corps...when he came home on leave I showed him my new 6 foot tall Craftsman tool box with locks....the wife has keys and she is constantly leaving the needle nose pliers on the kitchen counter, but I now where our son got it from, and I know what to buy her for her birthday. I did buy a Chicago (Harbor Freight) 4.5 inch reciprocating saw NIB with owner manual and blades for $1 at Goodwill last week...but is still isn't a Super Sawzall.

! When my son was 4 he crawled under my Cherokee jeep to help me change oil, I gave him a few tools, socket wrenches and he was happy. For over a year I would get a rolling noise when I started slowing down, drove me crazy, one day I was under the jeep and I saw knockout holes in the frame. I got my machinist magnet on a rod that extended and put it in one of the holes, Viola 3 sockets, put in there when Ira was helping me change oil. Later he got my tools and was dismantling the meter on the gas meter, but that's another story.!

The wrenches will show up sooner or later, much like my brain, I misplace mine every once in awhile, and I usually find it where I left it.

I know the feeling, I guarded my Milwaukee Power tools in the metal cases on job sites with a paranoia that made me highly unpopular. Anyone coming near my pile of tools was met with savage growls.

This is how we all end up with many multiples of common tools! When I was cleaning out my late father-in-law's garage I discovered so many small tools that even I was amazed, and I knew him for over 40 years. Of course, I kept more than a few for myself, adding to my multiples. And trailboss, one of them was a nifty DeWalt sawzall in a metal box!

When we bought a lake house in 1990,our son was 1.5 years old and he discovered the electric screwdriver while we were painting the loft. When we came down stairs all of the screws were missing from the bottom hinges of 5 doors in the house. We were just grateful that he didn't eat them. He put them all in a little pile. He hasn't picked up a tool or anything else on the floor in the last 29.5 years.

When other people have access to your tools you can guarantee one or more will come up missing and no one knows how. I don't even loan tools anymore unless I come attached to them. On the other hand I've lost tools right in front of me before and that's frustrating. And it seems no matter where I am 75% of what I drop on the floor, screws, nuts, etc. disappear forever, disintegrate.

I know every single tool that's in my tool bag at home and at work. And then when I need one and go to get it, its NEVER there. Also, it seems like the 1 Allen wrench you need is always the one that's missing.
I will not loan tools to anyone, I will also flip out if anyone touches MY Hammer. I quit borrowing tools too. Everytime I would, it would tear up and then I'd have to buy the guy a new one. If I'm going to end up paying for new tools, I might as well keep em for myself.

My son has slowly cleaned me out . . . I had to go to Ace Hardware today to get wrenches to put in a new faucet. All of mine were in his truck and he was off on a job. Arggghhhhh

^^ speaking of.... Lowes switched back to using Mapei. We've been having trouble keeping a bucket of thinset for more than 10 minutes. It heats up and hardens like their rapid set. Maybe a mix up in their packaging? Bad lot? Who knows?
Enough of my thread hijacking for today. I'm beat and I'm going to bed.

Your missing Allen wrenches are nearby your last project . . . . . of course you'll have to remember what that was.

Our trailer interiors can hit 150 degrees lickety split...but that is Arizona, maybe we are proofing the dough.

A friend of mine swears that Czech tools are made out of evaporating metal. Perhaps your Allen wrenches were, too. 😜😂

I have one of the last 32 ounce Framing Hammers sold in Los Angles. Now illegal to be sold there. No one may touch it. For one, when someone misses the nail and hits a finger with a 32 ouncer, there is not much left of the finger except pink ooze. Which is why they were outlawed.

I know the large Hammer + finger problem all too well. I'm missing the end of my thumb thanks to a 3 lbs maul. I have a large framing hammer, and a smaller one I use for trim. I've had both for over 15 years. I will seriously throw a fit if someone has one of mine. They dont make either one of them anymore and their replacement now has a waffle head, which I hate.

Our trailer interiors can hit 150 degrees lickety split...but that is Arizona, maybe we are proofing the dough. Quite possibly. I know I spent more time mixing more thinset than I spent laying tile, with the last bag I bought. It was a day full of aggravation.

I have found when working on guns, it's best to stuff towels, blankets, and whatever else is handy behind and under work benches, shelves, etc to stop the small parts and springs that are always desperately trying to escape. The ARs have taken it to a whole new level. I buy those pins and springs in bulk. When I was in the printing business, the only expensive tools I used were the magnifiers, but I had a large tool box that I kept red masking tape, scribes, pencils, china markers, Pantone books, gray scales, etc. Locked up in even during the day when I was there to keep from wasting most of the day looking for what I needed. Guys would grab stuff from my tool box right under my nose.

I have a 26 oz framing hammer, but it rarely gets used to drive nails. More of a destructive device. I have a nice fancy Stanley 20 oz that I never use for hammering anything because of the shock that runs up the steel handle. It makes my wrist and elbow hurt for days if I use it. Makes a great pry bar with a cheater pipe though. If I am going build anything I use a Harbor Tool nail gun. They are usually good 3 or four years of assorted projects.
