Hello, everyone.
After a 40 year hiatus, I started transitioning from cigars back to pipes last year. 10 pipes and 30 pounds of tobacco later, I arrive at your doorstep.
I have a feeling PAD and TAD won't be loosening their steely grip any time soon.

Welcome from the sticks in Mississippi. But you're right about PAD and TAD, you're doomed!

You have come to the wrong place for support in getting the monkey off your back, but welcome to the Patch from Humble Texas.

Welcome back to our lovely nightmare... I mean pass time.
The first step is admitting you have a problem. The 2nd step is embracing it. The 3rd is finding others who share the same disease and enable you even further.
Glad to have you.

Did you pass the Patch security test? If you are not familiar with BPF procedure, you can expect an email from Legend Lover. He will ask a few questions and run a background check. Not to worry, there have only been a few folks who were asked to go due to unmentionable issues. Legend Lover is also our resident PAD and/or TAD counselor. He runs our 42 step program, from which you might gain freedom from PAD and/or TAD as you unlock the meaning of life, the universe and everything!! If you complete the course, that is, without interference from the Vogans. By the way, did you bring your towel?😁

Come on, it's time for your medication. Addaboy. Naming your boy after my Patch pseudonym, what a great compliment!! I am sorry he is feeling ill. Perhaps you should stop feeding him those spice burgers Just a suggestion mate, as I will do anything to help out a friend and his family. PS Some kind words of advice, please do not be offended, but do you think it is wise to speak of or call to your son as one would a dog? You are a man of the cloth and a patch moderator. After all is said and done, folks look to you to set an example. Don't you have some background checks to run?

Welcome from Australia.
Once one has 50 pipes, PAD might be in it's infancy. 100 and it's becoming an affliction.
TAD however, is like coming down with a dose of lovers balls. It might hurt for a little while but it was damn worth the pain.
With the self appointed arbiters of social conscience, those shrieking wowsers who are a minority who wish to enforce their preferences onto the majority, giving governments the opportunity to justify whacking ridiculous taxes on tobacco, it's not only sensible to stock up while you can, it's an imperative. Here in Oz 50g of tobacco is around $85 and will be $100 by the end of the year with the indexed tax hikes. Never thought that this would happen.
Tobacco improves with age. It would be a valuable trade item should shite ever hit the fan. Tobacco not only holds it's value, some blends increase in value over time so it's a good investment.
TAD; don't fight it.

Welcome Calabash! Your & my return to pipe smoking stories are nearly identical. I came back mid-July last year after 35 or so years with cigars. I pulled my four old pipes from storage in the garage, well actually three briars; my meer was missing. My son had it and his dog had "tried to smoke it" requiring a new stem, but I digress. I cleaned those old pipes, bought an 8oz can of Potlatch on a great sale at P&C and away I went. I'm now at 70 pipes (in my defense, 15 of those were in one estate lot from a friend - I couldn't help it) and 60 pounds of tobacco in the cellar and another 3-5 pounds on the smoking shelf. The PAD and TAD are strong with this one. The good news is that I've curbed my other accumulation disorders, fountain pens and razors/soaps. The other good news is the contemplative benefits to pipe smoking are second to none and I've enjoyed myself immensely. Weren't you amazed at the tobacco selections available upon your return to the pipe? Nothing like four decades ago. And the online availability makes it a whole new ballgame. A fun time to be back with the pipe. Have fun!
