I’ve never been able to get my pipes to taste as good as the first few bowls after sending them to my professional of choice for a ream and cleaning.
I watched a video using a hose around stem ,test tube with alcohol or choice of liquid, then by heating test tube the liquid percolates up into stem, shank, draft hole and into bowl. Repeat enough and liquid comes back clear and then pipe is clean and sterile.
I haven’t tried it and one guy even sells the retort kit for a few bucks.
I was curious if anyone has tried cleaning this way and how the results were.

Haven't tried it, but advise if you don't know what you are doing, best to leave it alone until you know what it is you are doing...fire and burns are nothing to take lightly...and if you screw it up, that is what could happen.

Works like a champ, but very dangerous, you got to know what you're doing.

Its a eighth grade science experiment with a rubber hose and a flask and a Bunsen burner. And yes it can blow up sending glass and flaming alcohol every everywhere. It does remove the tough stuff using the vapor from the alcohol to leech the briar. Sending it off is cheaper than a insurance deductible.

It works well, but alcohol in the form of Everclear is very flammable, and the flames can be invisible... do your retort in the garage or in the back yard....if you follow safe practices you can do well. The ozone generator method is pretty cheap if you want to pay Mike Myers to do it, and it works great. walkerpiperepair.com/html/ozone.html

I bought the cheap one and used it, but I used an induction range with the tube in boiling water. No flames in the house! (Recently had the discussion in another thread about Everclear and fire) The instructions are by Darwin.
