I have made out quite well today -- the lighter I ordered was delivered. You can't see it well in the photo but it's an irridescent purple with butterflies, you can see the butterflies. The pipe on the left was a suprise extra that arrived with some tobacco in trade for the fingerless mittens I offered, and I am very appreciative of it. It's a Jost Regent. I assume it's a billard? Still trying to learn some of these pipe shapes. The one on the right is a no name briar I picked up at the tobacconist, I don't know what shape it would be considered, other than "bent." I loved the peach-ish pearly stem and the shap was nice too, the price was great so it came home with me.

Hi, nice pipes despite many years as a casual smoker , I am still leaning about pipe shapes in the hobby, but they are fine looking briars of classic shapes. The art & hobby of lighters is beyond me, I am content with a basic lighter that fills & works reliably, particularly pipe lighters , like the image below, with the right angle flame tube to prevent burning of the rim of the bowl, for example, bye for now.

I started out with that kind of lighter, but Zippo has a pipe lighter insert that works really well, and Zippos have lots of pretty options

Hi, I never knew zippo's came with a pipe adaptor, as I say , it is not my part of the hobby , but thanks I will investigate further, they have "macho" options as well, don't they.....

The shapes are a lot of fun and sometimes the waters are a little muddy. I would call the Jost a Canadian.

yeah, i wondered about that, because I've seen some and I think, isn't that supposed to be a _________? but they are calling it something else. i suppose there is a subtle difference that escapes us....

Nice ones Ma'am, the Jost was most likely made by Bill Collins that worked at the Jost Pipe & Tobacco shop in St. Louis, Missouri. And what a coincidence, Mrs. Henry A. Jost, proprietor of Jost's Pipe & Tobacco Shop, is one of the 60,000 American women who smoke pipes. The other I would call a Bent Dublin and it looks to be a well made pipe also from it's exterior looks. Here's a link to Pipedia for more about "Jost" JOST

very neat! I'd be interested in learning more about Mrs. Jost. On my bent Dublin it says "Italy" on the bottom of the stummel. This is exciting!

Hi, is it possible the Jost is a Liverpool shape, don't they say a Liverpool is shorter than the Canadian ? Just guessing. But the Jost looks similar in length to the bent Dublin. Bye.

according to some quick research they say that a Canadian has an oval stummel and a Liverpool has a round stummel. This one is oval so that would make it a Canadian.

Oval shank but, I know what ya mean. Stummel is the entire pipe minus the stem.

Hi , yes , I could not discern the oval shank in the photo, but I have a Butz Choquin pipe that calls itself a Liverpool pipe with an oval shank, so it is not always so clearcut in modern designs, but Canadian let it be....bye
