I had a Pipex 3 pipe with no good grain and a big dark mark on the left side so one day i decide to make her rustic so those things wouldn't be visible. Unfortunately due to my pc problem last year many photos are gone and i never manage to retrieve them so i haven't got the ''left side'' photos to see the bad grain and the dark mark. This is the final result and to be honest i am not happy. I have done some experiments with ''duo tone'' contrast and i am not satisfied with the results. What's your opinion? You can see the procedure with step by step photos here: pipe-smoke.blogspot.com/2010/02/8.htmlThe pipe code is: M8-3or in a video with music: Ladies & Gentlemen thank you for watching!

I wouldn't be so hard on yourself, Sid. You've done a brilliant job, in my opinion.
It certainly looks much better than it did.

I really like the rustication, and I personally like the finish also; I'm a fan of those reddish finishes. I have a Savinelli with a similar finish. I can understand you wanting more contrast, but if it makes you feel better I think Savinelli was going for the same idea with my pipe and you've achieved more contrast than they did .

You did what you set out to do an that was to remove the blemish. I'm a big fan of rustication, but when it comes to Red that's a No No for me. Other then the color Good job. Just for my personal pipes.

Red is not a favorite color of mine, rusticated 8snt my preference either. BUT, I do like the "new" pipe better than the old.
Well done

Sid, you usually always improve on what used to be...don't be unhappy with the results, they look good!

You could always go with a high gloss black finish. With the silver band and that nice ferrule and stem.
