My last pipe of the day (well maybe) was C&D Pegasus in a rusticated J. Everette Dublin with a 1/4 bent ebonite stem. For those new to the Patch, our Cramptholomew is J Everette and he makes some great pipes that are very reasonably priced.

Starting price is $527 for a piece of rough cut plateaux with the bowl and airway drilled 2mm off-center (my pipe maker friend says this creates the Vortex Smoking System), and a bright yellow preformed stem that's totally cattywompus. I call the "finish" "shabby chic", and it's 112% pure art. My regular pipes are far less expensive, but that's the model you'll want.

Smoking SG 1792 Flake in a Peretti Oom Paul. This is my first Oom Paul as well as my first full bent and I have to say, I really like it. Very comfortable. Drinking ice water and watching Dark Was the Night (2015).

Yes, it is the bulk version of Barbados Plantation. Yep, and if you like rum flavored aromatic tobacco, it's pretty good. Wilke's Rumcake is the best I've had though - highly recommended for aromatic fans. I smoke them infrequently, but do enjoy them from time to time and vanilla or rum are the ones I usually choose. Maybe I'll have to try it again, after I set some out to dry a bit.

the pipe is a small, spot carved, quarter bent, freehand, marked Karl Erik, over Handmade in Denmark...the tobacco is Eastfarthing, Sutliff's gift-bag offering ,from this years pipe show. My first try with this blend told me I wouldn't like it; freshly opened ,it was way to moist, and didn't burn worth beans...the label speaks of latakia ,but this surely is an aro...no big deal, as I like many aromatics, but they do have to stay lit for me to like them. last night I laid some out in the spill tray and put the kitchen shears to work, cutting the blend down to a "crimp cut", then left it out all night. This morning I find it lights well, and stays lit if you don't drift off in some day-dream as I often do when a pipe is going nicely. The flavor is coco/van, and maybe a lite touch of rum; the latakia is applied as you would add black pepper to your eggs, as the spice adds to the eggs, but lets you think EGGS, not pepper... the Latakia never came through for me in the first bowl; it adds a nice whisper now. A thumbs up to Sutliff for another change of pace blend to pair with my morning coffee.

Here are the three John Bessai Oom Paul’s I recently acquired from eBay as part of a 27-pipe lot. There were 7 Bessai’s, 2 GBD’s (one is an enormous ‘Unique’ Bulldog) and a Charatan’s Make among others. I will be posting them all over the next few weeks! Welcome Back, everyone!
