I hate Celebrities who have pissed off their fortune and then go on TV to sell me Reverse Mortages, Medicare Supplements, just shouting a speil knowing nothing about what they are hawking and don’t care if their so called product is bad or good for you. Their got it off my chest, F*#K You Broadway Joe , and Tom Selleck.  |

Yeah, it is aggravating...many of them have lost their looks (so have I) and look like they are some back-alley huckster selling their soul for a few bucks.

That's one reason I watch most everything recorded, so I can FF through the garbage. Tonight, though I have to watch the Raiders live, as my son is here and wants it that way. OH, the sacrifices we make for our kids!!

I like nothing more then a GOOD rant but, ya gotta do a better job OldCajon then that, something I can really sink my teeth into.
And I try not to pay attention to any commercials and I don't watch the news..........I'm trying to live a quiet clam life here.

Tom Selleck is worth somewhere north of 45 million. I checked out the reverse mortgages and it would have been a good thing for my mom who lived her last years in a paid off home on Social Security. It wouldn't be a bad thing for us, really if we were going to stay in this house. My son has no concept of how to handle money and is comfortable on his disability insurance. Annuities are stupid, and I am not interested in storing gold in my sock drawer. The little bit of investment gold I have is in a vault under London and can be turned into cash in a few minutes. Great thing about the DVR is skipping commercials. We don't watch anything live except the news, and we like to let it go for a few minutes to build up some skip time.

Reverse Mortgages are bad, that is the information I’ve recieved by High Powered Financial lawyers who took our case and won, they are like annuities with fees and hidden costs, if you are a couple when the person who is listed on the Mortgage usually the Husband,dies it sometimes happens that wife loses her home. The only good thing about this is the children are not liable for the debt, but when the Mortgage sharks get through with the Estate the,heirs won’t get much. As for Tom Selleck, why sell bad crap to old people if you’re worth 45 million dollars, believe me my favorite movie was Selleck being one of the last Cowboys, don’t remember the name. Then I accidently saw him on one of these stupid talk shows, The View or The Talk and those women browbeat him and made him look like a fool, no come back, lost my respect for him. And finally how much damn money do you need , isn’t self respect worth anything nowadays.

How much money does anyone need, let alone rich people? I dont know but I stand by capitalism and free choice.
As for reverse mortgages, they, like any financial decisions has its good and bad sides. For my grandmother who found out that my grandfather forged information using her name and when he died left her with nothing but debt, a reverse mortgage was a blessing.

The last time I looked the last living resident on the contract got to stay. I know a woman who 58 and a widow. Her house is paid for but she gets less than 600 dollars in SS. She is unable to work. She is by herself so why shouldn't she get a reverse mortgage. They may be bad for most cases, but not all. |

Sounds right Ron, not all situations are cut and dry. And we’ve still got middle age and young folks who are standup. Lot of them on this forum. I'm sure we do sir, that's why I'm here but, in general population, the people I see and have to contend with on a daily basis most are so centered on themselves and don't give a hoot in hell about anyone around them its hard to believe there is many decent people left. Just recently I've had two contractors for a job I need done here tell me they'll call me, neither have, even after calling them back several times and leaving messages. Don't tell me their too busy, that's a B.S. excuse. I don't care how busy I am, if I tell someone I'm going to do something, I DO IT! That's integrity and taking value in your word. I fail to see many left with it or even had it. Now ya got me ranting.  |

This forum is unusual in that the members here act with honesty and integrity...maybe it is the fact that we are all pipe smokers and I have found, at least here, that the members act as I try to do..act with honesty and integrity...I've met with and communicate with several members who are considerably younger than myself and I couldn't find a better group of people than right here on the Patch. I've said it before and I'll say it again...this is the cream of the crop...right here on the Patch.

The Reverse Annuity Mortgage was developed by someone I knew back in the very early 1980s. Don was the Director of a Non-Profit, do-gooder, group for seniors. He had one hell of a time getting this program adopted. I was at Fannie Mae when they started to take it up. Then the banks got involved and then the "mortgage companies". The program now is a very far cry from what was originally intended, loaded up on fees and reduced lending ratios. It was as depicted in ads years ago, an aid to senior citizens. Now that greedy and rapacious men gotten a hold of it, it is something less. It might still work for those with substantial equity and no alternatives.
