So it has been while since I have done a tobacco order focusing on new blends to try. So I have narrowed it down to these and was wondering if there were any opinions out there on these? - C&D Burley Flake #2 C&D Redburn Mac Baren Dark Twist HH Burely Flake Mac Baren Navy Flake Solani 656 Newminster 403 Fiammata Cloud Hopper

The Newminster Round Slices is good stuff. Not a "blow your mind" blend and not complicated but also not simple either. A good solid smoke that's a bit above middle ground. Worth trying and if liked, worth cellaring.
I'm not sure if you have tried Newminster Navy Flake but if not and money permits, its worth trying as well. I like it more than round slices but that's not saying I dont enjoy the rounds. I have made sure to cellar the rounds for sure but I've put away more of the navy flake.

I have never tried any of the Newminster blends, but have seen them mentioned occasionally on the Patch. Sounds like the I might have to choose between the two and try the other next go around. Thanks.

Was never a fan of Mac Baren Navy Flake and I've never tried Fiammata or Cloud Hopper, but all others listed are great!👍

C&D Burly flake is a good blend, but it is STRONG. Smoke on a full stomach. Dark Twist has a good flavor but burns me. HH Burly flake is fantastic and not too strong (also consider Old Dark Fired) Navy Flake is OK but burns me a little and never really blew my skirt up. Solani 656 - Aged Burly Flake is FANTASTIC!!! - highly recommended
I recommend: HH Old Dark Fired & Solani ABF. And if you are looking for a good Burley try C&D Old Joe Krantz.
Happy smoking.

The MacB Navy is pretty flat to me, taste wise, and a little bitey like Todd said. I like the Newminster Navy flakes better.
I am not a fan of the Newminster medallions. They bite me, and I find them slightly acrid. If you're looking to try some decent coins, and haven't had Comoy's Cask No 7, I'd strongly suggest giving them a try. I like them much more than LBF, and they're at a similar price. Smooth, with no rough edges right out of the bag.

I have probably tried over a hundred blends, and you missed every one. You know, a lot of the popular blends are popular for a reason. Tobacco Reviews is your friend.

I bought 10# of the Newminster 403 that has over 5 years of aging on it. Just keeps improving in flavor.

I have gone through Tobacco Reviews and read the descriptions from SmokingPipes/PipesandCigars/TobaccoPipes. Just looking for something that I haven't tried, and recently was given a bowl of burley that was really good. But the gentlewoman in question did not remember what it was and it was the last of a baggie. So the scavanger hunt begins. Fun/fun.

If the Warped blends are anything like their cigars, I'm in. But frankly, as my great grandchildren will still be smoking from my cellar, I probably need to slow down.
But, I will give a thumbs up to Cask No.7!

One of the most reliable, tasty and reasonably priced bulk tobaccos is Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake, imo.

The comment was made about LBF having rough edges, with aging that disappears. My oldest is at about 6 years of age, and it is incredibly smooth... I just finished a bowl.

I like LBF fresh. I have several tins that are more than 4 years old. I wonder if they are going to lose their flavor and taste like a straight Virginia.

The Solani Aged Burley Flake and MAC Baren HH Burley Flake are high quality burleys. The Solani is comprised of all burley tobaccos and is bolder than the Mac Baren HH. The HH has a condimental amount of Virginia, giving it some sweetness. It works best for me in the morning with coffee. The ABF also pairs well with coffee, but it’s to strong to smoke in the morning.
You may feel otherwise. Some of the Patchers are satisfied smoking ABF as a first pipe. Also, if you’re not familiar, I recommend Amphora Burley and Old Dark Fired. There’s also Amphora Kentucky, but I’m still on the fence about that one.
Whatever you decide.... enjoy.

Between LBF and LNF I prefer the Navy flake because the cavendish in LBF tends to burn me a little. They are both good blends though.

I agree, Darin pointed me to ABF, I think that it is at the top of the heap of any Burley smoke out there, MacB is also excellent. For Virginia’s, there is a reason some call MacBaren MacBite.... she can bite you like a viper if not careful... age does help in that regard also.

Not familiar with Newminster, but most MacBaren's are pretty good, especially Old Dark Fired.
