I think I made the stain a little dark, I also don't like the grain (or lack of) in the pearwood so probably wont use those blocks again. I am not sure about the shape I chose, but it sounded good in the planning stages, and when I had misgivings it was too late. Other than that, I am extremely happy with this one. In the begging there was a block We decided on a shape, but is it a good one? Rough cut. too late to change my mind by far This isn't so bad, I can work with it Ready to stain and polish

Only one question, for the pipe artists on here. Would you run some sand paper in the chamber to eliminate the stain I got in it, or not worry? (Stain is my creation using rubbing alcohol and food coloring)

I get what you mean about the grain, but I like it. Good job.

Sand the outer bowl again with something fine to see if the grain comes out?
If it is for you to smoke I wouldn't worry about the inner bowl. If not, you might want to take a go at it with some paper. Hell, Peterson inner bowls were totally soaked with stain a few years back.
Nice work overall!

Sand ALL that stain out of the chamber, one it looks unprofessional and two it won't taste good. I still see pipe makers leaving stain in there chambers and it just unnerves me. With a little patience and a steady hand there is no excuse to get stain in the chamber or get it on the mortise tenon junction. I know this is a new thing to you so I won't harp on it......too much.
Oh! and by the way, Pear wood is nothing like briar and will burn easier, so take you time breaking it in till you got a good cake on it.

Will do, and I thought leaving the chamber messy looked bad, just wanted a professional opinion

Sanded to 1000, then buffed to a shine with Tripoli on my home made buffing wheel. 4 and a half inch wheel on a drill mounted on a wood stand for a redneck Lathe

Smart thinking...This man (Ron-RdPipes) knows what he is talking about.

Kudo's to you jumping right in Terry, that is pretty cool! A cool place to lurk and gain some knowledge, when you show your wares for comment, be prepared to have thick skin...I hear they are brutally honest. www.pipemakersforum.com/

OK... In an unexpected twist of luck, it is SOLD pending payment. I didn't expect nor advertise for this, but a member of another forum I go to hit me up for it.
I am dumbfounded, ecstatic, and stunned. Also VERY proud of my work. Though if what the pipemakers forum intro letter suggests is true I may be a little embarrassed by it in a few years.
