I have a couple estate GBD's, and they really seem to hit the sweet spot for me on smoking flakes, and my newest one doesn't miss that mark either...it is a pre-1980, "Made in England" New Standard 1954 model lumberman, it is in pristine condition. The gold colored rondelle is on the top of the lovat stem, something that I don't see on archived publications.
At 5.1 inches long, and group size of #2, weighing a scant 23 grams, I was afraid that it might get pretty hot, but smoking some Dunhill Flake last night it provided a long, cool smoke. Something about English Pipes, really trips my trigger.

Very nice, Charley. Those older British pipes really sing, don't they?

Very nice, Charley. Those older British pipes really sing, don't they? John, they sure do...must have been designed by flake hounds. Thanks, Don!
