Outstanding Tex-Mex dinner you got there, Ron...I'm sitting here reading about the water main break in Houston...seems like everyone was swimming in the affected area....meanwhile I got ice cream from Graeter's....double chocolate chunk.

Had bangers and mash tonight. I added gravy and grated some cheese on the mash too... Awesome. I hope there were peas. I should be disappointed if there were not.

So I grilled a couple of Cornish game hens. It seems they have gotten a lot smaller over the years, With them, was a clutch of local trout given to me by a neighbor. Trout respond especially well to charcoal. Artichokes and curried brown Basmati rice. Much running back and forth but it was worth it.

Yep, we got flooding without any rain! 8 FOOT water pipe that supplies half of the water to inner Houston busted. 40 years old and they were trying to uncover it for repairs. Didn't even get all the dirt off before it blew. Half of the Medical Center is shut down, along with most everything else on the SE side.

Salty tater tots covered with cheese and chili and a cheeseburger from a local place. Momma also stopped at Sonic for route 44 drinks. I do love Sonic ice and you can buy it by the bag in the drive thru.

More charcoal grilled local Trout, cold, with mayonaise seasoned with curry powder. A cold artichoke, ditto. Left over beef and rice from days ago.

Had some smoked trout some years ago at Rudys in San Antonio...someone caught several and they threw them in the smoker at Rudys and served it up to those who were lucky enough to be coming through the line for other smoked meats and turkey...it was delicious and a real treat for the customers. Hope to be able to drive back there one more time before we have to hang up the spurs and stay local only...age makes driving for several hours a day an impossible task, but if we do it for only 4 hours a day we should be OK. Love the food traveling through La. into Texas...best Cajun food and Tex-Mex you can get...Bill Millers fried chicken and gravy just can't be beat! Same with Willies burgers in SA, Texas.

Last evening we had a great potato soup ,topped with chopped bacon and a bit of mild cheese, later we had coffee with the first homemade rice pudding I've ever made...I know, I know, I'm on a diet to get healthy, but I made up for it...I was in the gym at 4am this morning, and breakfast was low-fat yogurt and cold water.

Sounds terrific! You are making think about getting back into the kitchen to make some schi...a meat and cabbage soup from an old Russian recipe.

A little grilled Trout, another Cornish Hen from the grill, Collards and curried brown Jasmine rice.
Making up the dough for this week's bread. The usual, a pint of whole wheat flour, a pint of unbleached bread flour, milk, salt and olive oil, yeast, of course. Hours of fermentation.

A pot of Yorkshire Red Label Tea. The loose-leaf. No more of those annoying little sacks for me. Tinned milk and turbinado sugar. Perfect!
Two nice slices of bread I baked last night are in the toaster. To be spread with Cream Cheese and topped with rough-cut English marmalade.
