Well crap - for more reasons than one! I was supposed to shoot today at an outdoor range. 100 yards this time. But I got a call early in the morning saying it was cancelled. Some assh#les broke into the indoor gun range portion of the business overnight. Hear they got a dozen or so handguns.

I had to buy fuel for the truck today. I realized as I was at the pump that I haven't had to buy fuel since May.

I've done A LOT of moving and cannot say I envy you in this journey. Best wishes for the smoothest transition possible!
Try it when you are 70 and it's 109 outside! Thing is, we've never downsized at all. Our first house had a big storage building and an attic. Our second house was bigger and had three storage buildings and an attic. This house is a little smaller and has two storage rooms and no attic. We've been walking around stuff for 15 years. We are going to be dumping a lot of crap very soon. I'm going to sell all of the 300+ vinyl and 300+ cds, turntable, etc., and donate about a hundred books to anyone who will take them. I am going to drink all 6 cases of booze and wine and sit on the couch staring into space and petting the dog! You have my sincere and deepest sympathy. Moving a household is not for us old timers.

I had to buy fuel today, meat, groceries and lunch and had to pay for it all. It was worth to get out the house.

Another day off tomorrow, then I drive to Albuquerque on Labor Day,drop of a Ryder truck filled with my work station and supplies. Hitch a ride to Santa Fe, pick up my repaired truck and head back to ABQ to transfer for my ABQ routes... but it is all double time, so that takes some of the sting off.
I will be glad to get back in my truck, it runs faster and has none of the modern electronic nonsense.

Breakfast of eggs and toast. It may sound mundane but here in the summer I have to leave butter in the fridge or it melts and gets rancid. Cant have toast without soft butter! (I know, if that was the worst problem we had we'd be in paradise! LOL) Last night while the house was cool enough I left the butter out so it would be soft. This morning I made breakfast!
After breakfast I returned to my lathe and tried to finish a pine bowl I was making from scrap lumber. Combination of the lumber and the way I chucked it, it just ain't strong enough. The piece keeps breaking off the lathe till I decided I should give up before I get hurt.
Can't wait to get another vacuum. Then I can chuck the sanding disc and finish the Brandy pipe I was making. Ah well.. Good thing I'm just a hobbyist or I'd be broke! I don't make pipes (or other stuff) nearly fast enough to live off it.

Going to be 110 here in the Sierra foothills today. Has been hot and the air is very smokey. Just staying in, reading a book and smoking a pipe. Smoking a pipe is probably not something I should do when it is so smokey out, but the air conditioning is running and the filters will be replaced. Also catching up on piper videos on Youtube. Something I do when I'm really bored. Later I'll clean my pipes.

Sister out in Modesto says 110. So I asked here about the breeze out of the Frisco bay that rolls in almost every night and she said not a sign of it. I was in Mendocino a month or so back and darn near froze to death.

I was in Mendocino a month or so back and darn near froze to death. The northern California coast is always much cooler this time of year. I spent a couple of summers up there between Mendocino and Fort Bragg living on the coast. Best way to get through a hot summer. Back then, abalone, salmon, the occasional stolen sheep. Outlaw's paradise living in a drift wood hut on the beach.

I would rather have the day off, but if I departed PHX on Tuesday morning, dealt with all the transfers, I would be on the road all week, raking the Spurs. The boss gave the go ahead, so I can put it in slow cruise and stack the cash, and getting a paid holiday at the same time....and in the nature of the business, give some breathing room if I hit a snag.

Tomorrow's high is supposed to only be 70, but its also supposed to be real windy. I have a young horse I need to take over from Will and start riding, as he's gone about as far as he will with her. She's "roughed in" so-to-speak, but now its time to start producing a finished product. But young colts and high wind dont mix, so we will see.
I may just start building the new leather holster Ive been planning, if its too blustery to play outside.

I always wanted to try leather work, just hobby-wise. I learned to tool designs when I was about 10 or so in the Cub Scouts. I would spend hours in the summer making more intricate designs until I couldn't afford the leather any more. Never learned how to make it into anything useful. Maybe by the end of the winter you'll be a saddle maker! Wouldn't that be great!

The movers just left to drive back to Houston about 30 minutes ago. They are already tired. Worked their butts off. I have too much caffeine in me to go to sleep.

Ft. Bragg and the north coast is pretty much the crown jewel of California. Yes it is. That area has remained relatively undeveloped considering how people have spread like plague into the rest of the rural areas inland. Sorry to be grumpy about it. I wanted to move there (LOL!) back when we left LA. My wife hated the area with its fog, rain, drizzle. So, we ended up in the opposite- a high desert with plenty of sunshine. She was raised on the shores of Lake Erie and had a strong attachment to sunshine.

Even the lost coast is filing up. 25 years ago we purchased three acres with a perk test for 5000 acre and no one lived in Shelter Cove. Over a thousand folks call it home now with new construction going on. It is a good hour and a half south to Fort Bragg to get groceries or see a doctor. 15 years ago all they had was one store that may or may not have gas or milk.
